If you could create one law...what would it be?
I'm having trouble deciding between making it a crime to force someone to put the toilet seat down and requiring development in technology that makes furniture dust itself.

How about we make MANY laws into one bill;)
There has GOT to be a law that every public restroom have about 10 janitors. I've boycotted the use of public bathrooms for cleaness. *shudders*

I say we should make stupid people illegal, based on my evaluation of them. :D

I say we should be able to put signs on people that describe them, or something stupid they have done that day, and they can't take it off until they go to bed, and if you get too many signs saying that you're rude, or something like that, the police can give you a ticket

My new law would make it a capital offense for people whose waistline measurement is more than their inseam measurement to wear spandex in public.
Appearences on the Jerry Springer show should also carry a 25 to life judgement

What about a law that makes it illegal for anyone to trample, undermine, stifle, or remove other peoples' rights....

Probably create stricter rules on internet usage. For example: cut down spam, porn, and other useless sites and internet uses.

I'd say that:
Yearly, we must induct one peice of art, literature, music, or anything like that into a hall of fame sortof thing, and if anyone is cought disrespecting it, or calling it names, or something along those lines, its 50$
That or lower the prices of just about everything
Who wants to pay 5$ for fries at Cedar Point? (amusement park)not me. But their soooo gooodddd...!
Dragon

well then, according to society today (and all chili cheese fries lovers) they are worth $5 and wether we want to pay that much or not, we always end up paying $5

I know that most of you guys are just trying to joke and be funny, but mine is serious. I would make porn illegal in the U.S.
Magazines, internet, videos, etc.....
All it does is ruin peoples lives.

Not necessarily. We had a discussion on this in Global History II...
First off, pornography accounts for half the information transmitted over the internet.
Second, it's natural. The desire to see bodies naked is testosterone driven, which means that even some women look at pornography.
Also, what some may consider pornography, others may consider art, or some may consider it just someone being comforatable. In photography and drawing or painting, nude models are often better than clothed because of the fact that nude is more beautiful than artifically clothed. Of course, you can also be a nudist looking at a piece of art with a nude subject and be comfortable too...
I wonder how you came to the conclusion that it ruins peoples lives. The Elizabethian era still impacts us today, especially in the US, because the 'need' for extreme amounts of clothing, and this is reflected in what is accepted by most people. Mostly women are involved in pornography. Women who are comfortable with their body, and know can make money by showing it off.
Well, that's about as far as the discussion in Global History II went...

Everything that Beorn said, plus there's that whole First Ammendment thing, and I think that we should probably avoid messing with it.
As for a new law, well, I've got a list of drugs that need to be legalized...:D

WARNING!!!!: this contains references to sexuality that might offend some people! You don't have to read this!
Ok, I'll tell you how it can ruin peoples lives.
I know of this 3 year-old girl who was raped brutally by a 12 year-old boy who was addicted to porn.
I know of many couples who've broken up because the husband (or wife) was looking at porn. The list goes on, and on, and on.......
Oh, I don't exactly care if pornography accounts for over half of the information transmitted over the internet.
If they made porn illegal, there would only be less traffic. Who cares? I don't.
END OF DEBATE!!!!!!!

It sure must be fun to live in a world when you can make a series of logical fallacies and vague references to isolated events and then declare that you've won an argument. You only responded to selected elements of the argument that Beorn made, and completely ignored mine, quite simply because you have no interest in having a serious and intelligent debate, and instead refuse to go beyond kneejerk reactions and emotion. When you want to have a serious debate, please feel free to PM me- I am more than willing to listen to what you have to say if you will listen to what I have to say- but only if both of us can agree to leave emotion at the door as much as is humanly possible, especially when dealing with an issue that is inherently emotional for many people. Until then, I'll just leave you with ths:
Post hoc ergo propter hoc (Has a bad feeling that his Latin is gettting rusty, and that he made some hideous mistake there, but is feeling to lazy to actually look it up ;))
If you want to just move on though, that's cool too.

Eliot, would you consider editting your last post to have a warning that you're about to say something so ugly. I don't know about other but that happend so suddenly and it's just.. really effected me.
Just consider that?
However, despite the emotional reaction here's my opinion on the topic.
Porn should not be illegal. Nothing will ever put a stop to something like that anyhow, and to make it illegal would only drive it undergournd where none of it is being regulated at all. I can only guess that the 12 year old had been exposed to things he never should have been, probably heavy S&M stuff, (which IS illegal)something that no one that young could handle. Either that or he just had serious problems to begin with, in which case pornography was not to blame. That 12 year old kid is very much an exception.
Yes, some people become addicted to it, but some people become addicted to just about anything. I guess the difference here is that not all addictions lead to violent crime or the abuse of women (or men). I just don't see any way that making this illegal would put a stop to it.

Actually, the kid said he wanted to rape a girl because he'd been in porn for a couple of years. He WAS involved in porn. That kinda shows what it does to you.
Nom, sorry if I disgusted you, but isn't that why porn is perverted?
Beorn, I'm sick & tired of you. All I was doing was posting MY opinion!! All you do is come and challenge everything everybody says!! I used to actually like you a little bit. Same to FoolOfaTook!!

*Waves the magical peace stick through the air* I'm Sorry! I'll say that for everyone. They were just challenging your thinking
Eliot. It's good excercise for the human brain. You should see people challenging me for my religous beliefs. It's all right. If I could creat a law, people would have to build big walls on roadsides. That way, when people litter, the roads would get so full that you can't drive, and we'd make the people that live on the section orf road clean it up, so that eventually people would get the picture and stop littering! And there'd be less roadkill.

Mark David Chapman claimed that he shot John Lennon because of the book The Catcher In The Rye. I've read Catcher half a dozen times, and I know dozens of people who have read the novel, and the novel has sold millions of copies. There is one example of someone being influenced by the novel to kill. Does this tell us more about the book, or about Chapman? The explanation that a disturbed mind gives to justify a despicable action should not, and can not be accepted at face value.
Beorn, I'm sick & tired of you. All I was doing was posting MY opinion!! All you do is come and challenge everything everybody says!! I used to actually like you a little bit. Same to FoolOfaTook!!
You have every right to post your opinion- in fact I would be horrified if you didn't have that right. However, that same right also belongs to Beorn and Nom and myself- we all have the right to disagree with you. I'm really sorry if this argument has led for you to lose respect for me, but I would point out that you're the only one reacting emotionally here. If you recall, I offered my hand to you as a friend earlier, and offered to simply let us agree to disagree and move on. That offer still stands- we can end this discussion before it gets uglier, and I'm more than willing to forget about it, and carry on as if this unpleasentness had never occured. No matter what, I think that the most prudent thing here would be for a moderator to step in and lock this thread, before more tempers flare up, and people say things in the heat of debate that they don't mean.
So Eliot, what do you say? Will you take my hand and let this thing end before it gets any uglier?

Personally, I'd like to outlaw everybody for being a bloody disgrace to earthkind.
But then again, the world can be a nice place now and then, and I'd hate to miss that part. And it would be rather selfish not to grant anyone else the opportunity.
