I mean a lot of the cast aren't from the U.S. (Either from the U.K. or other parts of Europe). Especially, Roald Dahl, who wrote the book and the screenplay for the Wilder version is from the U.K.

Well, there is no movie called that, however, you can't get any closer then that either. The movie is titled, The Road Warrior. It actually, is a pretty good movie. Ofcourse, the third movie is called, Max Max Beyond Thunderdome. All starring a younger Mel Gibson.

My family didn't like the movie at all, because apparently it got the story all wrong. And it didn't have an Irish Wolfhound in it.

I didn't remember the Winn-Dixie dog being a wolfhound and I thought it was a very faithful retelling, one of the best I've seen in years. I wouldn't like the movie half so much if it wasn't so much like the book.

This is actually a sequel to a very similar movie both of which are probably based on the idea that if you put the two stars together in a movie you are bound to get something funny. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't, but I think it worked pretty well in this one.
