cough canceled cough

cough Hello all, it's Mike B / Beorn from The Tolkien Forum.

Recently, you signed up for information regarding The TTF Convention. Unfortunately, the first piece of news: it will not happen as planned. Originally I had hoped that we would be able to all book as a group at the Sheraton Denver Tech Center Hotel. The only way that we can do that, and still get a reasonable rate is to have around 40-50 people definitely going. Unfortunately, only 30 people (only 28 of which would be staying at the hotel) signed up for information regarding the convention.

Additionally, organizing something of this magnitude is beyond my skill. I couldn't find a travel agent who was willing to do this either. I was asked to sign a contract by Friday, July 18th, 2004 guaranteeing that I would have 40-50 people attending. This will not happen, especially considering the minor recession of Tolkien-interest which we've been going through over the past few months (thanks to New Line Cinemas shoving Tolkien down our throats in its massive advertising campaign to gain viewers for The Two Towers).

There may still be a meeting of some sorts, but it will not be organized through one central point. Each person will need to secure their own means of transportation, lodging, meals, permission, chaperone, meeting place, etc.

I'm sorry that I've let you down. I've put dozens of hours of work into this. It hurts me to fail you all.

Sincerely,
Mike B cough
