In one of the many sparkling white stone buildings of Heren Istarion, Canalëo the Peredhil, the History Teacher, sat at a small desk. About two feet in front of the desk was arrayed a semicircle of desk chairs. Beside the desk were a few small stacks of what appeared to be papers, drawings, and other devices of like sort. Canalëo was currently going through a small stack of papers as if to make sure they were all there.

After a while he finished going through the papers and look expectantly at the door. His students should be arriving strait from their geography class any minute, providing their teacher didn’t get long winded.

Dain walked into the classroom, boredom stretched across his face like a rubberband about to break. "Alas! The teacher of geography has a tongue that moves faster than a Dragon's tail!" Dain whined. He sat down at a chair, his head nodding up and down from exhaustion.

Sarin strode in right after Dain. "Indeed, but I guess not all of the people I know can take vows of silence. Maybe a partial one would be good for her though. First days are usually always boring though." With that he sat a bit away from Dain hoping this would be more exciting.

Canaleo laughted at the two students remarks.

"Yes, she does tend to get a little long winded from time to time, but don't tell I said that. Well, as soon as the rest of you arrive I will introduce myself and we can get started. And let us hope for your sake that I am not quite so borring."

OOC:

Dain: Good enternce post Dain. Your clever discription was also very good. Discription is some times a key thing in rps, you want to be able to make sure that the people reading your rp are seeing what you're seeing, hearing what you're hearing etc.

Mablung: You also did a pretty good job on your enternce.
"Indeed, but I guess not all of the people I know can take vows of silence. Maybe a partial one would be good for her though."

But what your character said was rather confusing, and I'm not sure what you mean. This my be because I dumb and don't understand what you're saying, or you might have done a bad job on communeicateing. And when you said, "hoping this would be more exciting" you might want to add "class" between "this" and "would."

As to both of you, you guys did a great job on picking up things from my post, I said "providing their teacher didn’t get long winded." Both of you jumped on to that and played it out. Reading other peoples post is very very importent, that way you can play off of things a persons character does or says in one of his post, and you can be sure to get things right.

Once agian I ask that no one take any of these remarks personal. They are only to try and help you become a better rper, all of these remarks are from my perspetive and there will be ocasions were I am wrong, or I will want you to do something my way, and in another class someone might tell you to do things thier way. so just bare with me.

Ecthelion walked in at a high pace. When he looked around and saw only two students in class he let out a sigh of relief and said, "For a second there I thought I was going to be late, looks like I'm earlier than I had thought." Ecthelion nodded and waved to the students and teacher then walked to a chair and sat down.

Canaleo smiled at the students as they rushed into class.
"Yes, you are late Goldie...But since Nenya kept you so long I will forgive you."

Canaleo glanced down at the student list on his desk.

"It seems that there still are a few more students that are not yet here. I'll wait another few minutes for them and then we'll get started."

********************************
OOC:

Ecthelion: Your post is pretty good, I don't really see anything that I correct. Keep up the good work.

Phenix: Your post has many spelling and punkuation errors in it. You need to copy your post to something with a spell check like Microsoft Word before you post it. Also never use slang like "ain't" in a LOTR RPG post. I'll go over your post and make some changes to it to show you how it could be done better. I'll put all my changes in bold. Keep working at making your post better, you'll be as good as the rest of us in no time.

A few minutes later Phenix rushed into the room "Sorry I'm late." he started to say. but stopped as he saw the surprised look on the faces of the students and teacher.
After looking around the room for a moment he decided to sit down beside the dwarf.
"[b]I’m not late, am I?" He whispered to the dwarf.

Goldberry344: The only change I'd say to make is to change "runs" to "ran." Otherwise it seems pretty good to me.

Note to all: As this class goes on I will be getting more and more picky with your post. So for now I'll be pretty easy on your post, but as we go on I'll be demanding better and better post. That way you guys will be forced to become as good as you can be.

Canaleo smiled at lossenandunewen's entrance.

"Don't worry, I know how easy it is to be late on your first day. It seems that you are the last person signed up for this class. So now that everyone is here, we will get started. In case any of you don't know, I am Canaleo; an Assassin in the Grand Council, and a Heren Istarion trainer. I will of course be your history teacher for this semester. In this class we will start with the Music of the Ainur, and then continue our study by selecting different regions and studying them up to present day. In this class there will be pop quizzes ever so often, tests, and you may be required to write some papers, I will of course give you plenty of notice before any assignment is do. Other then the pop quizzes that is.”

He stood up and walked in front of his desk and began to speak, pacing back and forth as he did.

“Ok, let’s get started. As you all know Eru, or Ilúvatar to some, made first the Ainur, whom were the offspring of his thought. And he spoke to them, given to them themes of great music; they sang before him and he was pleased. At first they sang each alone, or in groups of but a few: for each understood only the part of the mind of Ilúvatar from which he came, and so they grew slowly in the understanding of their brethren. Yet as they continued to listen they came to deeper understanding, and increased in unison and harmony.
And so if came to be that Ilúvatar called together all of the Ainur and gave to them a mighty theme, revealing to them greater and wonderful things then that which he had showed to them before. And its glory and splendor were such that the Ainur were amazed, and they bowed before Ilúvatar and were silent. And Ilúvatar declared to them that they should make harmony together in a Great Music. And since he had kindled within them the Flame Imperishable, (also know as the Secret Fire, and debatably the Flame of Anor) he instructed them to each show forth their powers in the adorning of the theme, each with his own thoughts and devices. And he sat among them and hearkened to their song, and was glad that through them great beauty had been wakened into song.”

Canaleo paused in his talk, and walked back to his next and looked at a small clock. Turning back to the class he said.

“I do hope that all of you were taking notes, much of this many of you may know, but the tests will not by any means be easy. Because Nenya held you so long in her class, and all of you were late, we are out of time. Tomorrow I expect all of you to be on time, and we will finish going over the Great Music. If you have any questions please come and speak with me.”

OOC:

First of all, don't worry about what I said about test and papers and stuff, it was for the benifit of the rp. It has not yet be decided, but we might give you guys some test or something to decide if you pass the class, I'm really not sure though. Sorry it's been so long since I've posted, I've been really busy the past week and just now found the time to write the lesson. Since there have been a lot of post since I was last here I can't go over everyone, but I will give everyone here some pointers on them.

Ok, in a real RP one or two sentence post are unacceptable. If a short convo is to be made, like the one held by ms, and Golde, should be done all in one post. It is a good idea to make yourself familiar with other people's profiles so that if you need to have a convo between your character and another person's character you can know how that character would react to whatever your character says. Though you should avoid posting about someone’s else’s character, it is often necessary to do so. In this class though, it is of course ok to make very short one line post.

I don't know if I will keep doing the class this way, but for now a few of you need to post about your character leaving the class room. And you all need to return on Thurs. That will give me a day to work on the next lesson.

Rasec had lost the first History of Arda lesson. But he thought that maybe a student could tell him what the teacher had taught and afterwards he could speak with the teacher himself and ask him if he could join the second lesson.

He found Charmiana walking around near the Dorms building and gently asked her about the lesson. She was very kind to him, for she gave him her notes and explained him all about the first lesson detailedly. Rasec went to his room and studied the papers with Charmiana's notes. After reading everything, he went out of the Dorms to look for Canalëo, the History Teacher.

Canalëo was sitting on a chair and reading some papers in the History classroom. Rasec quietly approached him.

- Excuse me, Teacher - he said gently. - I would like to speak with you for a while. Sorry for disturbing. I am Rasec Dawnstar, a Paladin Apprentice. I have unfortunately missed the first History of Arda lesson. And I came to ask if I could join in the next lesson. Charmiana helped me with the subject of the lesson, and gave me her notes. I have studied everything. What do you say, Teacher?

Canalëo, looked up from the papers he was reading when Rasec entered. "This is the second student who wasn't on my student list, and who also missed the first class. Hmm, I'll have to talk with administration about this." He thought to himself as Rasec explained what he had wanted to talk with him about.

"Of course you may, the first class wasn't much anyway, Nenya held all of the students late in her class and I didn't really have time to finish my lesson. Just don't forget the next class."

After Rasec had thanked him and left Canalëo got up and left to talk with the people in administration about why Gilgalad and Rasec hadn't been on his list.

He thought it a bit strange though that she would go to the back of the class and read, but for the time he ignored her and went on with his work. It wasn't long though before Chokang entered and gave his pitiful escuse for being late. Canaleo looked up at him, he was starting to get irritated at all the students who'd been late.

"You are a little more than late as Avari just said, class ended a few hours ago. Here's a sheet with the times of this class on it, don't be late tomarrow."

Once he percieved that all of his students had arived, Canaleo stood.

"Well, it seems that you guys are starting to get used to life here at the Heren Istarion, all of you are actually on time today. Lets hope on you guys can keep doing this all year.

Now, I believe we left off last time at the beginning of the music of the Ainur before Ilúvatar. So lets get started, I want all of you guys to pay attention and to try and keep up with your notes, we've got a lot to cover today and I don't want to have to keep repeating myself to you guys. But if you need me to, I will do so. I have no desirer to see any of you guys fail this class, and will do all I can to help all of you out.

In that time the music of the Ainur was like every instrument, and vast choirs singing together in perfect harmony, and the sound of the music reached even the farthest parts of the great void. It is said that no music as wonderful has ever been made again, but that at the end of days it will be made even greater, as all the children of Ilúvatar join together in great music.

Ahh, can you imagine? Think of the most wonderful music you have heard played, how pleasing it was to your ear, how you wish the song would go on forever, and how you lost yourself in its melody. And yet it was nothing in comparison to the music that was made before Ilúvatar. Just think of it.

But than Melkor, and this I will call him for now for that was his name before he fell to evil, before he was named Morgoth, the black foe of the world, by Feanor at the ring of doom. But we will come to that later in the class. And so Melkor, desiring greater power for himself, and wanting to bring things of his own thought into being, began to weave his own thoughts into his music. And so discord rose up around him, and many that sang near him were disturbed and their music faltered, and some even began to attune their music to his instead of the thought that they first had held. And soon the discord spread, and in time the great music faltered into chaos, and they become turbulent, like a raging storm. And so Ilúvatar rose, and those before him saw that he smiled; and raising his left hand, a new theme began amid the storm. It was both like and unlike the first theme and it gather power and had a new beauty. But once again Melkor heeded it not, and discord rose again around him, and the storm of song become even more violent than before, until some of the Ainur dismayed and sang no longer, and in that time Melkor had the mastery. And so Ilúvatar rose a second time, but this time his face was stern: and raising his right hand a new theme began once again amidst the turmoil. And this time it was unlike the others. For started out at first soft and sweet, a mere rippling of gentle sound is delectate melodies, but it did not stay so, and soon it grew in power and profundity. And in time there seemed to be two musics progressing at time, and they were ever at variance with each other. One was deep, wide, and beautiful, but slow and blended with great sorrow, and it from this music that the chief beauty came. But the other had now achieved a unity of its own: but it was loud, and vain, endlessly repeated. It had little harmony, but was rather a clamorous unison. And ever it competed with the other music, trying to drown it by the violence of its voice.

And inn the midst of the strife, Ilúvatar rose a third time, and this time his face was terrible to behold: Then he raised up both hands, and with a sound greater than all that had been made before, the music ceased. Think about that, the sudden change from loud, great, mighty, and beautiful music, to sudden silence; the sound must have been deafening.

Ok, before we go on, does anyone have any questions about what I just went over?

Ok, I don't have time to go over all of your post for now, but I'll try and go over them on my next post.

Notice that my lesson is not yet over, so if you have any questions, have your charactor ask them, and I will answer them in my next post. I'll try and make another one in the next day or two.

Ewen scribbled furiously, trying to keep up with the speed of the talking. Her notes became jibberish, and she found it futile to continue trying. She looked out the window, and began to day dream.

"I'll get the notes off of Sarin later" She convinced herself, giving reason to her laziness.

Lita was still scribleing notes furiously after the teacher stopped talking about the Music. She kept writing, erasing with a frustrated look, and writing again. At last she burst out in an unintelligable exclaimation of frustration, erased like mad, and threw her pencil down on her desk. With a grunt and a sigh, the hobbit folded her arms on the desk and plopped her head on top of them.

Avari, who had heard this story before, mostly sat back, and took notes only on the parts that she had not heard with such description before. Near the end, she just sat back and relaxed, knowing that she had heard the end; trying to keep herself from telling the story along with Canaleo.

He turned ad walked back up to the front of the class again.

"Ok, last chance before I go on, any questions?"

Mablung: Next time try and be more clear when you write something like this...... " teacher went into a long rambling story that really didn't go anywhere." Was this something in the past before Canaleo stopped for questions? Had he started up again? That sort of thing...........

Other wise I don't really see anything to correct in the last few post. You guys are doing good, keep it up.

Rasec had already heard the story of the Ainulindalë long before, but he vaguely remembered it, so he thought it would be better to note every thing he could from what the Teacher was saying. He was a very organised student, so when Canalëo stopped speaking, his notebook was full of well-disposed information. He reviewed the notes and found a question.

- But did many Ainur follow the rhythm of Melkor? - he asked Canalëo in a loud clear voice, staring at him with his profound blue eyes.

Well, unfortenatly for the dwarf and the elf girl, the teacher did notice.....;)

Ok guys, here is a perfect example of what happens when you are not carfull to read other people's post. I said a few post back,
"Once he percieved that all of his students had arived, Canaleo stood." This means that I said that all the students had arived. So even if you (personally) just started in this class, your character was already in the class.

This is a problem that plagues even the greatest RPers. But the better you are at this, the better of a RPer you will be.

Ok, once again, I'll try to get my next lesson done asap.

From the back of the room, Farathorn strode slightly forwards. He stopped at a few paces from Canaleo and smiled.

"I thank thee for noticing we all made it on time, but there is one thing I would have liked to see pointed out. Would you be kind enough to answer the question prompted by my fellow student here?."

At that moment he pointed towards Rasec, who had not received an answer to his question yet.

"I have always been quite interested in the answer to his question myself."

OOC: Galdor, to my knowledge, the preferred playing context within this forum is "past tense", isn't it? Our newest additions to the roleplay seem to post in present tense however, while the rest writes their posts in past tense. (sorry to be a nitpick, The_Swordmaster and ElvishHellion) :)

Thanks for pointing that out Scatha, I didn't notice it. Yes, around here everyone does their post in past tense.

And ElvishHellion, there is no need to appoligize, the reason you are in this class is so I can teach you how to better RP, and give you a good overview of the history of ME.

Everyone, please remember that no one should feel bad when I correct misstakes in your post. That is what I am here for, and I'm not trying to pick on anyone. Also don't feel bad if your post keep having mistakes, even the best of us can make some really bad post every so often. Just carefully go read what I say and try to improve on your next post.

Now, I've taken the post from both ElvishHellion, and Swordmaster, and rewriten them. I fixed some mistakes, and also just tried to improve on their quality.

A dwarf by the name of Grandlyon walked in behind the elf. He kept his eyes to the ground, hoping that the teacher wouldn't punish him for being late. He had already missed his first class, and now he was late for his second, and he was becoming increasingly nervous. He quickely found a emtpy and sat down it in, hoping the instructer wouldn't notice.

A young looking elf walked in brushing her hair, seeming to have just gotten out of bed. She had slept in and had missed her first class. Her faced burned in embarassment, as she noticed the other students looking at her. Trying to get to a chair as quickely as possible, she bumped into one by Rasec, and sent it sliding backwards a bit. She hurriedly retrived it and put it back in place. She wisped "sorry" to Rasec before sitting down.

Once again, I'll answer Rasec's question and carry on with my lesson as soon as I find time to do it.

EDIT: Also, there is no need to make small OOC post to just say "thanks" or "sorry." All they do is clutter up the thread. If you wish to write something of that nature just put it at the bottem of your next post. Once again, no need to feel bad, just giving you a tip.

Celebrian listened patiently in the back of the classroom. It was the first class she had been on time to. She, like most elves, had heard the story since childhood. Canaleo walked down to where many of the students had gathered and begun to talk amongst themselves.

“I am so boring that you gather around and start a little chatting club when I pause for questions? I will not have this in my class, in this class you will pay attention, which means you won’t be continually talking amongst yourselves. I don’t mind a few words being exchanged, but this is uncalled for. I won’t punish you this time, but if this happens again you all will be punished. And Farathorn, next time you don’t need to leave your seat to ask me a question.”

Canaleo turned and strode back to the front of the room.

“Ok, now if there won’t be any further distractions….I will answer Rasec’s question. All we know about your question is that each time Melkor created his own theme, great discord rose around him and that many of the Ainur attuned themselves to Melkor’s theme rather than that of the thought of Eru. I would assume that many of those who at first followed his theme, it later days became his servants, coming down to Arda in many forms. But the exact number of the Ainur, or of those who followed Melkor’s theme, nothing is known to us.

Now when Ilúvatar caused the music to cease, he stood and firmly reprimanded Melkor, telling him that even though he was mightiest of the Ainur, he was still nothing to Ilúvatar himself. And that even when he thought that he was ruling the theme, and that he was making his own thoughts, that ultimately he was still just an instrument of Ilúvatar in the devising of things more wonderful then he could imagine.

At his words all the Ainur were afraid, though they didn’t fully understand them, and Melkor was filled with shame, and from it came secret anger. But Ilúvatar rose in all of his majesty and left the regions that he had made for the Ainur: and the Ainur followed him.

And once they were come into the void Ilúvatar said to them “Behold your music!” And than he showed them a great vision, this vision, was the beginning of Arda. For he showed them a new world, and its whole history was played out before them. And once the Ainur had gazed upon it for a while, and were silent with awe, he said once again “Behold your music!” And he explained to them that each would find therein, amid the design that he had sent before them, all those things which had seemed that they had devised themselves or added. And then to Melkor he said that he would find all the secret thoughts of his own mind and that he would perceive that they were but a part of the whole a tribute to the glory of his plan.

Ok, that concludes the part of this class on the Music of the Ainur. Next class time we'll start on the creation of arda. Enjoy the rest of your day."

Slowly a young elf walked in, she was wearing a dark brown cape. "Oh, my, I'm so sorry for being so late." she said, looking as if she was going to cry.
