Valanthe stood outside in a large feild in back of the Temple of the Heren Istarion. There are three targets set up here, the wide open feild in back of them. There is a rack of bows a little ways over from the targets, and several full quivers on the ground next to the bows. Valanthe runs her fingers over the feathers of an arrow she has in her hand as she waits for her students to arive for their archery class.

Golde strolled casually onto the archery field, her favorite bow in one hand, her quiver slung over the other shoulder. She smiled to Valanthe, then glanced around at the supplied bows and quvers. "Am I not allowed to use my own for this class?" she inquired.
Celebrien jogs onto the archery field with a smile on his face. "Hello, I am a new member here and I can't wait to start this class. I hope we can have fun."

"Golde, feel free to use your own equipment, these others are here only for those who would rather use them or haven't their own." Now she turns to the others.
"This is indeed archery class! I hope you will all enjoy it! Celebrien, if you haven't brought your own bow and quiver, you may choose one from over there." She guestures to the equipment on the ground.

Goldberry344- Nice enterance. "Strolled casually", I liked that, it's good that you put in a little description as opposed to a simple action. The only thing I have to say is a spotted a typo. No biggie, just don't forget to proofread carefully before submitting a post.
Celebrien- An ok enterance as well. Very simple, so nothing much to comment on, but simple isn't always a bad thing :)
Phenix- Your enterance itself was ok. However I noticed several spelling, grammer, and mechanics problems. Make sure to proofread before you post. The only thing I have to say about your entrance was you used the verb walk twice one right after the other. I would suggest using a different word in place of one of the walks. Also, I think you may be a bit confused. Quivers are what hold the arrows, they are not the arrows themselves. If you knew this already and I was just confused, I apologize.
Good work so far, everybody!

"If you are signed up for foot archery, this is indeed where you need to be."
Valanthe picked up her bow and looked at all of her students.
"We shall begin soon. Are there any questions thus far?"
************************
OOC:
Legolaschick- First of all, by pressing the edit button at the bottom of your post, you can go back and fix a mistake such as that, but try to catch that sort of thing before posting. Second of all, your entry post is almost identical to the one you made in the mounted archery thread. You should make each post different and original. Don't repeat yourself like that. Other than that, there were a few mistakes in spelling and mechanics.
I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH THE IMPORTANCE OF PROOFREADING TO ALL OF YOU.
After the entrances, I will start to be more picky about posts. I will start to break them down peice by peice, pointing out the good and the bad. I am sure they will all be fine if you hearken to of my comments. :)

Goldie took her bowstring out of her quiver, and hooked the bottom loop over it's appropriate end, bracing the lower shaft against her instep as she bent the top of her bow to catch the other loop of the string. In a flash she drew her bow back to her ear, stretching her muscles. Relaxing slowly she brought the string to its resting place, not wanting to dry fire and hurt the bow and string. She leaned lightly against her bow and waited for class to start.

"Well, if there are no more questions at this time, we will begin now."
Valanthe paused for a moment, but no questions arose.
"Alright then, let us begin. For those of you who have some experience with archey, please bear with me, for we will start with the very basics. All of you please take your bows and stand on the line I have marked for you." She gestured towards a line drawn in the dirt a little ways away from the targets. After the students were all in place, Valanthe took up her own bow.
"Let me first see how much you can all do. For those who have not done it, draw a single arrow from your quivers and fit them to your bow."
As everyone follows these instructions, Valanthe fits an arrow as well.
"Now, bring your bow up close to the side of your face. Hold the arrow between your index and middle finger. Pull your bow back so that the heel of your hand is nearly touching the side of your ear. Thus said, let me see you fire an arrow at these targets."

OOC:
Goldie- Not to shabby. However, you used a lot of commas in your first sentence.
Goldie drew her bow back, aimed for a second and released, her arrow hitting the far right of the bulls eye, boardering on red.
I would have suggested something like:
Goldie drew her bow back, aimed for a second, and released. Her arrow hit the far right of the bulls eye, boardering on the red.
It's just an easier way of putting it. Other than that, it looked fine to me.
Legolaschick- Legolaschick picked up her bow and pulled her arrows from her quiver and put it on the bow.
Too many and's. You shouldn't put more than one and in a sentence. next time try something like this:
Legolaschick picked up her bow, pulled an arrow from her quiver, and put it on the bow.
That was good. She said to herself and got another arrow ready.
It was worded a little funny, and the dialoge was done incorrectley. This is how it should look:
"That was good,"
She said to herself, getting another arrow ready.
I noticed a few spelling mistakes as well. I think your biggest problem is proofreading. Read each of your posts over before posting them. I promise you, it will make a BIG difference. :)
Celebrien grabbed a bow and a quiver from the ground, then drew an arrow. "I hope I don't mess this up too bad!" he thought. He drew the arrow back, aimed, then fired. Goldie- I'm very sorry, I didn't see your post before Celebrien's question until now. :o I liked it very much, though! Nice detail, no mistakes, very nice.
Celebrien- A very nice post. No spelling or grammer mistakes. However, when you put in thoughs, put them in italics. Also when doing a dialoge, start a new paragraph in order to make it easier to read. For example:
Celebrien grabbed a bow and a quiver from the ground, then drew an arrow. "I hope I don't mess this up too bad!" he thought. He drew the arrow back, aimed, then fired. The arrow hit in the white, about six inches from the bullseye. "Oh well," he thought "at least I didn't miss the target completely."

I can see that. :D Very nice, I see an improvement. However, you said "till", I understand what you were doing, but I'd prefer if you used "Until". Your post was fine. I noticed no spelling/grammer/mechanics mistakes. The only thing I have to say is perhaps you should have seperated that first sentence a little more?It may have looked a little better if you broke it up a bit more. However, there is nothing wrong with the way you did it. Kudos! :D Continue!
Phenix- Phenix drow back the bowstring to his face and ealised the arrow " damn" he hsouted as the saw the arow miss its target by a few inches,
Still a few mistakes in spelling and such, but it isn't s big deal. I understand. Try to work on it, though. :) However, I was a bit upset with the use of foul language in your post. Not only will it look bad when rping, but the mods can and probably would get on your case if they spotted it. Not too bad :)
CORRECTED: Phenix drew back the bowstring to his face and released the arrow. He cussed loudly as the arrow missed its target by a few inches.
lossenandunewen- Lossenandunewen appeared on the field, her feet making no sound as they slowly stepped on the grass with an elegant, inaudible grace. Very nice! I was very impressed by your post! Good work! There were a few simple mistakes, such as you didn't capitalize "I" all of the time. Also, you called me Lord instead of Lady. No big deal, they are things I'm sure you will fix with ease. You, as everyone else, still have the dialoge a bit off, but I'm going to go over that. As a matter of fact, I'm going to give a breif lesson in using dialoge right now:
When speaking in an RP post, there are several ways people do it. Some people put it in bold, some just put it where it may fall, but I think it's best to seperate it from the rest of your post so it is easier to read. For example:
Cora walked out into the meadow. She watched a bird fly overhead, and called out to it. "Small bird, what say you?" The bird simply kept flying and ignored her.
This is one way you could say it. I will not count it against you if you choose to do it this way in te future. I personally would do it this way:
Cora walked out into the meadow. She watched a bird fly overhead, and called out to it.
"Small bird, what say you?"
The bird simply kept flying and ignored her.
I think it is easier to read this way.
When posting a thought, as in a quote not spoken verbally, you should put it in italics. For example:
Her small feet carried her quietly into the great hall. "I wonder how long it took to build a place like this?" She thought to herself in silence.
This should be:
Her small feet carried her quietly into the great hall.
"I wonder how long it took to build a place like this?" She thought to herself in silence.
Those are the problems most of you are having. If you have any questions at all, PLEASE post them OOC here :) I'm teaching this class to help you. :)

This post was good as well. I see no mistakes, and it sounds pretty good. :) As for your question, which font did you mean? For bold you type in [ B ] (without the spaces of course) at the beginning of what you want to put in bold and at the end you put: [ / B ] For italics, you do the same, only using I instead of B. "If all of you would take a spot behind here....."
With this, she started back the way they came. When she was about 75 yards away, she laid the targets down, face up. She returned to where her students were standing.
"Now, the trick to this form of firing is your position."
Valanthe put and arrow to her bow and pulled back. She aimed it upwards and fired. The arrow went upwards a ways before falling back down above one of the targets and landing just outside the bulls-eye.

HobbitGirl - Lita stepped up to the spot where she was to shoot, her heart pounding and her bow ready. She nocked an arrow to the string, swallowed hard, and drew the arrow back. I hope I don't bungle this, she thought. A bead of sweat dripped down her face. Relax, Lita, the hobbit told herself. It's only one shot. No one will hate you if you fluke. Suddenly Valanthe threw the disk, snapping Lita out of her thoughts. Instantly Lita reacted, sending her shaft flying through the air. The arrow nicked the side of the disk, causing it to flop through the air like a wet sponge and crash into the grass with one edge sticking straight up. Lita lowered her bow and her head, feeling her cheeks flush with embarassment.
I love it! :D I think you may have a knack for this sort of thing..... :D:D:D:D:D

Ewen looked a bit challenged. She looked at Valanthe while slowly taking a bow out of her quiver. She stepped up to the line, and her grey eyes scanned the fields and sky looking for the perfect pathway to the bullseye. She aimed upwards, and bit her lip. She looked a bit scared of the outcome, but she continued to pull the string back, and place the arrow inside. She shot upwards with a tiny yelp, and her arrow flew high into the blue sky. She watched it turn, and begin to return to earth, only she seemed to angle the shot straight into the air. The arrow plumeted back to where it started.
"Duck and cover!" Ewen cried, and dropped to the ground covering her head. The arrow hit the ground right in front of her foot, and stuck straight out. She breathed harshly.
"Lady Valanthe, I think I could use some help." She stammered quietly, still a bit shocked from her shot. Her eyes never left the arrow.

Grabbing her bow, Valanthe took Ewen aside for a moment.
"Now what did I say earlier? All you have to do is loosen up. Relax. Don't sweat this so much. Now, your problem was that you aimed too far up. You want to aim at the best angle between straight forward and straight up you can. Now, watch me, then try again."
Valanthe took her bow and placed and arrow to the string. She slowly aimed her bow and drew back the string. She glanced at the targets once more, then let go. The arrow hit just above the center of the target.
"Alright, now try again."

Seeing that it was perfectly alright if she did horribly, Lita lifted her head, and slowly a smile spread across her face. In an insant she was her normal, hyperactive self again. "Lady Valanthe, if you do not mind, I'll shoot next," the hobbit said. She pulled an arrow out of her quiver, fitted it to the string, and drew back. With one eye closed and her tounge sticking out slightly from concentration, Lita moved her bow up and down, trying to get a feel for what angle she should shoot at. After a few seconds the hobbit stood completetly still, and with a twang her arrow was in the air. She lowered her bow to watch the shaft fly. It arched upwards, but the pull of gravity won over it, pulling it down towards the earth and causing it to bury it's head in the soil three feet above the target. Lita grinned broadly. "I got near the target! Hooray!" she said, dancing in a little circle.

But if you just tell yourself that no one will hate you if you do terribly, you'll do fine." Lorien gave Lita a blank look. Lita's smile faltered for a moment, but she grinned again and said with a courtsey, "Lita Shinahn Brandybuck is the name, and it is a pleasure to meet you. What does everyone call you?" Lita asked.

Fair haven waited and tryed to estimate how hard to pull the string, unable to tell and feeling as if she looked stupid for standing there so long she put an arrow in her quiver and pulled the string tight to her side. She tryed to keep the arrow in line with the bulls eye and trying not to aim to high, she let fly her arrow. Fair haven waited what seemed like forever, her back was begining to sweat, then finally the arrow pierced through the cloud and hit the bulls eye on the outer rim.Fair haven shouted in exitment, she did not think she would even hit the target. but when it did what a feeling of accomplishment she felt. Fair haven walked to the back of the line and waited for her next try, a little more high spirit then before."Hello lorien"she said with a smile as she walked by.

Farathorn calmly walked up to Fair Haven, whom he had met when he first arrived here. He placed his hand on her shoulder and pointed at her bow. "Quite an achievement, Fair, but you should try to aim as quickly as possible, instead of keeping the string pulled back for such a long time. This will only cause your hand and arm to start trembling, thus risk the chance of missing your target."
He grinned and pulled away his hand, then headed towards Lady Valanthe. He stopped a few feet before her and made a short bow. "Quel re, Mylady. I am Farathorn and traveled a long way to attend the academy. I hope you do not mind the advice I gave my fellow student?"

Ewen trembled a bit, and walked back to the line. She gave a scared look to Valanthe, but slowly pulled out her arrow. She put the arrow onto the bow and pulled the string tightly. Her grey eyes searched the sky, and darted from Valanthe to the target. She aimed upwards, but on more of an angle then last time. She let loose a tiny cry and shot her arrow. It flew through the air, and finally landed three feet away from her. She looked relieved, and stepped back from the line in the grass.
"Atleast I didn't wound anything" She said nervously. She was still afraid of this target.

Well, I guess I should go next. Celebrien thought as he stepped up to the line. He drew an arrow from his quiver and readied himself. Let's see...if the wind is blowing west...ok I'm ready! He aimed upwards at a slight angle to the east and let fly. The arrow landed on the blue outermost edge of the target. Celebrien calmly replaced his bow on his back and walked back to the group with a smile on his face.

She took out her bow made by Fair Haven's hands and without waiting for an answer, strung it. She plucked the string, and it gave a musical twang. Taking an arrow from her quiver, she pulled the string back to her ear. Without hesitation, she let it fly. It hit the target just above the bull's eye. "Well, a little rusty I'm afraid. But hopefully I can accomplish the skill well known to my people." She stepped away from the line. Spotting Lorien, she stepped in beside her and spoke to her. "I have to work on that."

Farathorn smiled to the teacher and took a stance between Celebrian and Fair Haven, before he grabbed the bow from his back. He measured the distance to the target, then accounted for the wind, which blew slightly from the side. While he kept the variables in mind, he placed an arrow on the bow, pulled back the string and took aim. As he released the arrow, he swiftly placed a second on the bow and pulled back the string once again, sending the second arrow after the first one, that just landed outside the bullseye. Moments later, the second arrow landed just within the bullseye, a mere inch besides the first.
With a slight grin he placed the bow on his back again, then gave a sheepish smile towards the ladies. "Not exactly what I had in mind, but it will do for now."

"You are a good archer," Celebrian said. It annoyed her that he had made a better shot than her. She knew she would have to work on her pride. There were so many more intelligent, strong, and talented people here than there were in Lothlorien. She felt a twinge of pain as she thought of her late husband, Lolindir. "He would have enjoyed this," she thought, "He loved archery." She fingered her bow as the memories flooded back.

He slowly removed his hand again and handed her another arrow.
"Perhaps we could train together some more in future?" The half-elf arched one of his brows a bit, while he awaited her reply.

She smiled at Farathorn, "I would enjoy that very much. I used to be very good at archery, but I lived under the protection of other elves for so long..." her voice faded then grew strong again, "But yes, I would quite enjoy training with you." She felt better. At least he was being gracious and not gloating or anything. She was touched by his kind offer. She took the arrow. "Watch me shoot. Then tell me what I'm doing wrong," she said. Celebrian strung the bow and pulled the arrow to her ear. She quickly judged the distance and shot. It hit just outside the bull's eye again. She turned to Farathorn.

Farathorn nodded and commented on the shot.
"Nicely done, but there's one small flaw in your stance. You should pull the string to your cheek, to align your eye with the arrow, not pull the string as far as your ear. This way you have a better view and a more precise aim."
He took his bow off his back once again and slowly showed her the move he had just explained. "By aligning your eye with the arrow, you should hit what you aim at, unless it is a moving target. In case of a moving target, you account for its speed of movement, then aim the expected rate in front of the target."

Looking at Lorien L.C. smiled,"Would you like my help? I'm always up to help others, for then I help myself." she said with a small smile. And with that she went up to the line and after lining up her shot she pulled back and let her arrow fly. It hit the out side of the bulls eye. I had hoped for a better shot. she thought to herself.

IC: fair haven wondered why she took so long to hit the target and every one else just walked up and hit it dead center."*sigh* I fear I am a bad archer."she thought to herself as she was still in the back of the line.

Valanthe walked across the grass of the field at 3:50 P.M. Seeing there were already some students there, she smiled and took up her bow. She fired at the targets on the ground. Her arrow peirced above the center.
"Ha, can't win them all." She said with a shrug.
"Well, for right now I'd like you all to make a shot at the target, in no particular order and let me know if there is anything specific I can help you with. Once you've all fired we'll move on."

Elleth slowly walked into the field. She smiled slightly and greeted Lorien. The students were practicing so she picked up her bow and took an arrow from her quiver. She pulled back the string to her ear and aimed carefully. Her hand trembled a little when she let it fly. It hit the outer rim of the target.
"It seems that i won't ever be able to hit it in the bull's eye..." she said in a low voice to herself.

Lorien smiled at Elleth. She hoped that Farathorn would be here to help her today. SHe'd improved greatly since their last class but only enought to hit the bull's eye ,no where close to the middle though

Goldie stepped upto the line to take her shot. She drew an arrow slowly from her quiver, glancing at the rest of the class. Swiftly she knocked the arrow and pulled the string to her eye, all in one motion. Pausing for a split second to aim, Goldie released the bowstring. Her arrow swiftly cut through the air, coming to an abrupt halt in the lower right hand corner of the bullseye. Smiling with satisfaction, Goldie lowered her bow and stepped back from the firing line.

Walking up to the line L.C. took her shot, this time she had hit the bulls eye right on. Yes! I did it!" she thought to herself.

Farathorn calmly walked towards the archery field, his bow and quiver on his back. Once within reach of the teacher, he bowed towards her. "Good afternoon, Milady. Mind if I gave you some assistance today?"
The half-elf rose and looked at the instructor with a grin on his face, whilst he added a brief comment. "After all, you seem to have the busiest class in the entire academy. I hope my classes will not be this crowded."

Elleth saw L.C.'s skillful shot and smiled at her. "I wish i could fire arrows so good as she." She sighed and stepped up to the line. She lifted up her bow and pulled back the string. Then she let the arrow fly. Now it hit a little closer than before. A slight smile appeared in her face.

Valanthe courtsied politely to Farathorn.
"Yes, I would be most grateful if you would offer some of your knowledge to the other students. Thank you."
She smiled and turned back to the students who were firing. She noticed Elleth as her arrow got closer and closer to the bulls-eye.
"Elleth, try to steady your hands a bit more, and perhaps aim a bit higher," Valanthe called to her.

Farathorn nodded to Lady Valanthe and smiled.
"Consider it done, Mylady."
He strolled towards Elleth and watched her every move. In the meantime he rose a finger in the air and smirked.
"The wind comes from the left, so aim a little more towards the left, since the wind will blow your arrow towards the right. By accounting for the wind, your aim will improve."

Phenix knocked three arrows on his bow, trying too do the same as yesterday, he carfully aimed at the target, hold the bow string back a few second and then realised it. at first al the arrows flew straight against the middle but soon they "turned" and hit teh target in the first and second ring from the middle
" oh well..can't make it every time" he sayed too himselfs before steping aside

The time was 3:59 in the afternoon, and from a distance the people on the archery field saw a red glint coming towards them. The glint was the bright red, curly locks of a hobbit who once again approached the archers as if she was going to burst out in a cartwheel any minute for the amount of energy she had. She grinned broadly at Lady Valanthe and Lord Farathorn. She made a bow towards them. "Good afternoon, my Lord, my Lady." She straightened, and her grin widened, though she was smiling so wide that it didn't seem possible. "I'm not late!" the hobbit exclaimed. "It's 3:59! I'm early to class for once!" The professors of Heren Istarion only looked at her, seemingly at a loss for words at her randomness. Lita blushed, knowing that look all too well; getting it from her teachers was humiliating. Meekly Lita picked up one of each of the practice bows and quivers that were laid neatly out on the ground for students to use. She slung the quiver on her back, held her bow in both hands and waited in the line for it to be her turn to shoot.

Goldie smiled at Lita and nuged her foreward to shoot. "Go ahead, no one else is going. You might as well!"

Lita jumped when she was nudged, but when she spun around and saw Goldie smiling at her the hobbit smiled too. She remembered that it had been Goldie who welcomed her to Heren Istarion. Goldie was the first person who had ever made her feel welcome, for Heren Istarion was the first place she had ever felt welcome. Remembering this made Lita's smile widen, as it had a tendancy to do, and the hobbit stepped forward to shoot.
She pulled an arrow out of the quiver on her back and fitted it to the string. "Blasted targets," she muttered. "So far away, and facing upwards too. Ah well. Maybe I'll hit it this time." As soon as she stopped muttering to herself the hobbit dearly wished no one had heard. People thought she was insane as it was. Trying to shove those thoughts out of her head, Lita pulled the arrow back. She began trying to estimate the angle she should shoot at in her head again, and remembered Farathorn's advice to Elleth about the wind. The hobbit listened as a breeze blew, ruffling her auburn curls ever so slightly. She took the wind into her calculations, pulled the arrow back another milimeter, and let it fly with a twang. It sailed through the air, swifter and truer than Lita thought she was capable of. It sank into the target just centimeters from the bullseye.
Lita was elated. "I hit it! I hit the blasted thing! Yes!" The hobbit dropped her quiver suddenly and turned a cartwheel for sheer joy at her success.
Celebrien walked onto the field slightly behind Lita, his quiver strapped to his back. He began to warm up before Lady Valanthe arrived. Noticing Lita's look at Goldie, he walked over to the hobbit just to make sure he invited her to the party. "Lita, just checking to make sure you got an invitation to the party for Goldie?" he asked. "Yes, Celebrien, I got one and I can't wait!" After he asked her, Celebrien wandered back to his target.

Farathorn grinned as he watched Lita, then commented briefly:
"Well done Lita, may the hair on your toes never fall off."
The half-elf smiled at the Hobbit, knowing his response was common among her kin.
OOC: Good posts, Hobbitgirl. :)
Goldie: The post is a little on the short side, I know you can do better. :)

Elleth stood behind the line again. She took the arrow, pulled back the string of her bow and aimed a little bit to the left of the bull's eye. All attention she turned to the target when suddenly her memory brought her back to one of the sunny days in Rivendell. She was sneaking slowly forward and watched her brother in front of her. He even didn't notice her or pretended that he didn't. That was their favorite game in the childhood. Suddenly she sprung to her feet and cast him down and they rolled down from the low hill and laughed.
She couldn't resist and laughed aloud. She blushed when she saw other's looks. She turned quickly again to the target and let the arrow fly. Now it almost hit in the center. Her gray-green eyes sparkled in joy for she had never hit so near.

Valanthe signals for all of her students to ceasefire for a moment.
"Very well done, everybody! You're doing great! Now, I notice that this target is a bit more complex than others. There are a lot of variables you need to take into account in archery. All of them are especially important here. You need to keep in mind your aim, speed, strength, balance and very importantly, the wind. In this form of targeting, you can't isolate your arms completely. Your whole upper body needs to be flexible enough for ou to get into the correct position before firing."
Valanthe took a moment to demenstrate everything she had just said. When she was through, she looked back over to her students.
"Now continue your practice with all of that in mind."
