View Full Version : Model RP

Anamatar IV
01-28-2003, 03:54 AM
As I am reading the rp threads for the first time I am noticing how inexperienced some of you are. So I have decided to start a model rp thread. Me and the newly returned Rasec will role play and example of how an rpg should be played. Note how little OOC there will be, how few one sentence posts, and how organized the text to quotes are. I hope you can all use our example into your own rp.:) This is meant to be a learning experience for you guys. It will only take a few days. At the end of the rp we will post each post again but point out in a color things that we did that we have not seen you guys do.

The rp will be simple with a low quality plot:

A pack of orcs keeps killing people in this village and it is our job to find them and destroy them (yes just the two of us:rolleyes: )

This is an example of a lighthearted rp. notice how there is not as much fighting, as well. Lighthearted rps usually have more fighting--but we do not want all fighting.

It was a grim night. As Anamatar walked down the streets people eyed his suspiciously. He was knew here and the locals did not regard him with trust.

Anamatar turned down an alley. Two scared children ran from him screaming. He had no idea what had happened to this town to make it so hostile and fearful of strangers.

A man was sitting on the street curb. He alone seemed courageous in this town.

"Excuse me, sir," Anamatar said to he. "Could you tell me what has plagued this town such?"

OOC: Sorry for busting in Anamatar, but can I perhaps join in?
I am a senior Game master at a site called Tazlure, which is a moderated PBP. Maybe I can be of some help in here?

The man on the curb looked up at Anamatar, his eyes revealing distrust and a hint of fear. With a soft voice the man spoke to Anamatar. "This place has been plagued by orcish attacks, stranger." He raised his head a little, shaking off the initial fear.
"This town was once thriving, before these green beasts came to raid it. I tried putting up more of a defense, but as you can see I seem to stand alone."

With a small sigh, he raises himself from the curb and comes to a full stand. The man is taller then he looked at first and has the build of a man used to doing labor. He nods at Anamatar and resumes to speak. "What brings thee here?"

He calmly awaits Anamatar's answer.

A man on the corner was observing Anamatar and the other man while they talked. He did not listen much, but he could notice they were speaking of the orc attacks in the city. The man decided to approach, and he introduced himself.
- Excuse me. - he said in a clear voice. - I could not avoid taking my eyes off you both. I know of what you speak, and I too want to fight it. I am Rasec, son of Cesar, called the Dawnstar, and I come from Edoras. Please, let us sit down her and discuss about this matter carefully.
His eyes laid on Anamatar, and he could feel he was a noble man, as noble as himself, and his face was of great passion to war. The other man seemed to be a little scared with all that was happening, and yet he seemed courageous. The light in the room was weak, and the three men sat and began the discussion, firstly introducing themselves to each other.

Once seated inside, the man that sat on the curb began to speak again. "My apologies for not introducing myself earlier, but these lands are harsh and trust is a rare commodity since the raids started. My name is Farathorn and I came here from Gondor."

He glanced at them both, ready to defend himself if needed, then resumed. "I have a sword and a chainmail at home, along with what I gathered when I traveled here. I have lived in these parts for centuries and can be your guide."

Calmly he removed his helmet, revealing his slightly pointed ears, the tell-tale sign of a half elf.

- That is indeed surprising to see an elf in these parts of Middle-Earth - said Rasec. - Even if it is a half elf like you are. I am right, am I not? For you do not look entirely elven. Well, you will be of great use somehow. I do not fear the enemy, and I think you do not as well. Once we have all introduced ourselves, we shall start to plan on how we will strike the enemy. And it must be a hard strike.

Farathorn nods at Rasec and replies his question, while he leans forwards. "Thank you for you kind words, Rasec. I am indeed of both elven and human ancestry, but chose to live among the elves."

The half elf turns his attention towards the last member of the trio, the only one that didn't introduce himself yet. He nods slightly to the man, to indicate that it is his turn.

"I am Anamatar, more of me you shall not know and of whom you are I do not wish to know. Oft do leaves of great trees fall and drift far on the winds; to which fate none will know: to fall into nothingness as many others of his kind or to plant himself and start a tree as great." Thus Anamatar spoke to the others.

Rasec

- Fair and true are your words, Anamatar - said Rasec. - And we shall respect you if you do not wish to tell us any more of you. I particularly have nothing to hide from others - then he made a pause. - But apart from that, we have work to do. Our conversation will not save the city, so let us get down to some work, shall we? Does any of you have a plan?

Then Rasec glanced at both of them questioningly. He could think of a good plan, but it would take some time for him to conclude it.
- If you want me to elaborate a plan - he broke the silence. -, you will have to wait until tomorrow. It will take me an entire night to work on it. What do you tell me?

The half elf glanced at Anamatar and nodded.
"Mae govannen, Anamatar."

Farathorn grinned slightly at Rasec, before he started to elaborate why. "Devising a plan is one thing, once you are done i'll tell you if it will work in this area. I had enough time to get familiar with the countryside. Together we'll be able to tweak that plan of yours."

As Farathorn said these words a shrill scream was heard.

"They're back!" yelled a maiden just rushed into the bar.

"Bar the doors and lock the windows!" someone shouted.

The men and women piled stools infront of the door and locked the windows swiftly. The room went silent.

By the windows the people listened carefully. Outside harsh growls of Orcs were heard. They sniffed and scratched and swore at eachother.

"What is that smell?" Anamatar whispered to no one inparticular.

"THEY SET TORCH TO THE INN!" another yelled. The villagers screamed and rushed this way and that, knocking eachother down and running towards the barred doors.

But suddenly there was a crash. Anamatar, Rasec, and Farathron leapt out the windo with swords drawn and charged into the Orcs. The fell beings were dismayed by the crashing sound and the sudden onset of (what seemed like) a large force. The orcs fled far from the village.

- This is but a sign of the destruction the Orcs are doing to the city - said Rasec. - We do not have time to elaborate a plan. There is no plan we can make that will help the city, for time passes running by us and in the end no plan will work. Let us fight the Orcs and stand before any army that may appear from now on. If courage and strength have followed us until now, it will not abandon us any more.

Then he made a pause and both of his companions nodded.
- Let us help these people now.
And they helped them to put everything on their places again and then they spoke to them, asking them not to be afraid and assuring they were safe.
- When the Orcs will strike the city again I do not know. But we must keep our eyes opened.

Farathorn glanced at his compagnions, as the orcs fled from the village. He grinned slightly, while he looked down at his weapons, a mere two daggers. "Could we possibly stop to allow me to get my chainmail and sword?"

As the two elves regard their guide, they spotted that he bled from several cuts. Nothing too deep, but in need of some bandages anyway.

OOC:

This looks like a good place to end. You get the idea of how to role play. Now, as promised, I will go back and show you some things we did.

I put quotations in a different paragraph.

He calmly awaits Anamatar's answer.

He described his character actions more.

Rasec found a good way to introduce himself to the story.

These are just the first post of each of us. Look through the rp. if there is something you don't do....try to do it.:)
