In the book they go back to the shire and sam uses galadriels gift to make the flowers grow back but in the film she gave him rope instead of the box full of magical soil. So how will they explain the shire growing back so fast?
There will be no Scouring of the SHire in the film, so Sam will have no use for the dust.
The film will most likely end with Frodo leaving Middle-Earth, and Sam returning to Bag End to say "Well, I'm back"; or it will end with Elessar and Arwen's wedding.

Th Grey Havens are included; I believe the last scene of the film will be Frodo sailing away on the ship and Sam staying behind in the Havens. There will be an epilogue spoken by Galadriel (PJ says so on the FOTR EE DVD), but I don´t know what she will say.

I read somewhere (dont have a link, sorry), that at the very end we will find out that Sam has been the narrator of the film all along, reading from the red book to his children.
If this is true, then it will be a nice little touch from the epilogue found in the Treason of Isengard i think?

That would be a nice touch!

All of this speculation certainly is making me want to see the RotK...all the same, I'm glad it's in December rather than sooner, let the debates roll!:D
Personally, I've heard that it will end with a shot of the company sailing off to the Grey Havens...I think it would be best with Galadriel's epilogue, although Sam reading the story to his children would be a nice touch.

I think that would be kind of Cheesy. But what would be real cool is having Sam a 111th birthday (If he lived that long, i dont recall) and tell the story to a group of kids like Bilbo did at the beggining of the film!!! I think that would be cool, then pan out and slowly fad to black and have the movie end!

I think Sam left to follow Frodo at the age of 99, but I'm not sure. I think that would be a nice ending, considering his and Frodo's discussion about being in a tale, but I too heard it will end with Cate Blanchett saying that "The World is changed"... and the ship sailing away.....

Samwise Gamgee was born in the year 2983 of the Third Age, or 1383, Shire Reckoning. He left Middle-earth in 1482, SR, after Rosie's death. By my admittedly questionable math, that makes him 99 when he leaves Middle-earth.

Im sure PJ could exagerate a bit and make him 111 years old tells the story then he leaves ME

I think that it should end with Frodo sailing away. Galadriel will come on saying that line she said at the beginning of FOTR. That would be a cool ending. So would it end up being Sam reading to his children. Who does he marry anyway?

I think that it would be cool for sam to be telling the story to Elanor, Frodo, Goldilocks & the rest of his children"On September 22 master Samwise rides out from Bag End. He comes to the tower hills, and is last seen by Elanor,to whom he gives the red book afterwards kept by the Fairbairns. Among them the tradition is handed down from Elanor that Samwise passed theTower, and went to the Grey Havens, and passed over the Sea, last of the Ring - Bearers."
that is how it will end...

I think any of these endings would be awesome. I personally go for the whole loop thing where it ends with Galadriel repeating the beginning. I've always liked looping stories... its just me :D as long as PJ doesn't drastically change anything i'll be ok (ex. frodo still goes to grey havens, etc.) can't wait for RotK! 301 days!!

*cough* Ahem. I believe that if I were to have my way the film would end as follows.
The whole seen of the Grey Havens would occur and as Sam watches the ship sailing away it would show different shots of both Frodo and Sam and them thinking about their friends and show the members of the fellowship and what they are doing in their life. Then it would come back to Sam watching the light of Galdriel's vial disappearing on the horizon and a voice over of Galadriel saying "The World has changed ..."
I believe that would make a splendid ending. As far as I know Peter Jackson has done a very good job on the Grey Havens and it is the most emotional part in all three films. It is his favorite.

I can imagine some incredibly sad music which will have some people in tears playing as Frodo's ship slowly fades away into the fog in the distance. That would be a very emotional ending.
If it were to be Sam narrating, how do you explain the sudden change in voice? Cate Blanchett sounds nothing like Sean Astin...

nolliag- the only portions of the Scouring of the Shire that were filmed was what we saw in Galadriel's Mirror in the first film. There will be no Scouring of the Shire in ROTK. :(

I'll be so sad if they don't have the scouring of the Shire in it. It was totally one of my favorite parts in LoTR.:(
On the ending, I think that either version- Galadriel's or Sam's would do just fine. Somehow I think that Sam's would be nicer though. It would end the movie on a warmer, less sad note. Maybe with old Merry and Pippin looking on, adding stuff Sam forgets, into the final few lines, then a fade out of all of them.
*Sigh*
I know I'm going to cry my friggin eyes out at the Grey Havens part either way.

It is sad that there won't be any scouring of the Shire. I loved that part too. The ending of LOTR is so sad. I cried so hard the first time I read it. I hope the movie makes me cry too. I will bring tissues.
