A scolaire dhil

In another section of the forum someone has struck upon the excellent idea of a "trivia" thread.
I don't know what everyone else thinks but i thought it really worked well.
For anyone who hasnt seen it the idea is to ask a trivia question and whoever gets it right asks the next question.
How would people feel about starting a similar thread here?

Okay, it's been 4 days since beleg posted, and since he didn't ask any question i'll put one up:

Who was the wife of eomer??

Lhunithiliel
02-07-2003, 06:19 AM
If I can remember well, it was Prince Imrahil's sister.
Prince Imrahil and the young King Eomer established a great friendship during the battles for MT.

Beleg
02-07-2003, 10:04 AM
I think it is Lothiriel but i clearly remember she is the daughter of Imrahil.

1. What was the last task Given to Sador concerning Hùrin?

Finarfin
04-16-2003, 09:12 PM
Sador's last job was to make a chair or a throne of some sort!! It was left unfinished, i think, after Hurin went to the Nirnaeth Arnoediad

gilgalad
04-17-2003, 11:32 PM
I'm sure that's right, so ask away Finarfin.

Finarfin
04-18-2003, 11:31 PM
This should be easy for anyone who read the silmarillion pretty well. What colour were the Feanorian lamps? For extra credit: name one or two people who had them?

the guys who had them were the 2 elves that helped Tuor out anway - Gelmir and Arminas. The lamps were blue in white glass or something, right?

Finarfin
04-18-2003, 11:40 PM
The other guy's name was Gwindor i think, he helped out Turin. Go Keano!

Here's one that stumped me in the ranking test:
Who challenged Pippin to a wrestling match? (hint, from ROTK)

Finarfin
04-18-2003, 11:50 PM
The son of that tower guard guy in Minas Tirith, i forget all their names, i think im wrong

gilgalad
04-18-2003, 11:59 PM

Finarfin
04-19-2003, 12:02 AM
Who were the three representatives of the elves that first went to Valinor?

gilgalad

Finarfin
04-19-2003, 12:12 AM

Since Gil-Galad hasn't posted from a while now, I'll restart this thread,

Lets see if anyone can answer this!!!!;)

Q. Who wrote the Narn I Hin Húrin?

Lhunithiliel
05-15-2003, 06:37 AM
Early in the morning with only one cup of coffee... I will try to remember...but of course I might be wrong. - Pengolod? :o

Inderjit S
05-15-2003, 09:29 PM
Dirhavael, the Hadorian poet. He had assistance from Mablung and Andvir, son of Androg. He wrote it whilst in refuge in Sirion.

Lhunithiliel
05-15-2003, 09:30 PM
Hehehe! :D
I know who in fact wrote it!!!!!!
Why.... J.R.R.Tolkien OF COURSE!!!!!! :p

Only to find time as to remember whose writings he had "translated"...

Maybe tomorrow...

Inderjit S

NEW QUESTION: If you were a Noldorin loremaster upon Tirion then what would you call the Nogeth niben?

Eöl
05-16-2003, 03:11 PM
Correct, this is getting repetetive. When is that thing under my name going to change from apprentice, when am i going to get tested etc and so forth?!

Sorry to interrupt like this, but I noticed this question went unanswered. Finarfin, the 'title' under your name is not designed specifically for Tolkienology. It changes to loremaster once you reach 100 posts, then you may change the title to anything you want, and have an avatar.

Lhunithiliel
05-18-2003, 10:18 PM
But...Indy, the previous question????????
OK...here is the answer to:
Q. Who wrote the Narn I Hin Húrin?
It was Dirhavel.

Inderjit S
05-18-2003, 11:11 PM
Lhun-I answered the question: LOOK AT MY POST:

Dirhavael, the Hadorian poet. He had assistance from Mablung and Andvir, son of Androg. He wrote it whilst in refuge in Sirion.

Also none of our answeres are *fully correct* Elfwine wrote the prose version of the Narn which he translated from the Sindarin poem version by Dirhavel. I also remember reading in M.T that the three 'Great tales', Turin, Luthien and Earendil were of Numenorean oirigin though as we later learn most of the Quenta is.

Beleg
05-19-2003, 06:13 AM
The three Great Tales must be Númenórean, and derived from matter preserved in Gondor. They were part of the Atanatárion (or the Legendarium of the Fathers of Men). ?Sindarin Nern in Edenedair (or In Adanath).
They are
(1) Narn Beren ion Barahir also called Narn e·Dinúviel (Tale of the Nightingale)
(2) Narn e·mbar Hador containing (a) Narn i·Chîn Húrin (or Narn e·'Rach Morgoth Tale of the Curse of Morgoth); and (b) Narn en·Êl (or Narn e·Dant Gondolin ar Orthad en·Êl)
