What exactly is Eorlingas? Is it a place? I know Theoden mentions it but I don't rember anyone explaing what or where it is? There are so many names in ROTK I get confused sometimes.

A name taken by the Rohirrim in their own tongue, signifying the followers and kin of Eorl the Young.

Thanks. One more question, who is Eorl the Young? Sorry but I am full of questions today. I guess I want to get everything straight before ROTK comes out in the movies.

Eorl
The founding King of Rohan.

The son of Léod of the Éothéod, and founder of Rohan. When Gondor was assailed beyond hope, they sent north to Eorl for aid, and he came south in force to rout the enemies of the South-kingdom. As reward, Steward Cirion granted him and his people the land of Calenardhon to dwell in.

There is an especially good story in UT about the coming of Eorl and how the King of Gondor gave the Eorlings Rohan. I usually re-read parts of the books, or look at my encylopedia and atlas when I need some answers. Of course many things are different from the book to the movies, but it usually provides me some background or clarification. Check out the UT story though, its quite good.

Wynston where can I find this UT story?

In the book called Unfinished Tales (UT), which is mainly a collection of all kinds of stories Tolkien never fit into a larger whole. There are stories about Eorl, but also about the Wizards, Túrin Turambar, the Palantíri etc.

Thanks Niniel. I have to add that to the list of books I want to read along with the Similirion (sorry if I mispelled that).

The Gondor-king that Eorl aided was Cirion:)

If you want good info on various Tolkien details, go visit:
The TolkienWiki (http://www.thetolkienwiki.org/wiki.cgi)
You will find all sorts of good answers.
There is also a piece on Eorl and the Eorlingas (Rohan) there.

Good luck.

Cirion was the twelfth ruling Steward of Gondor, a damn good one I might add.

His actions not only helped Gondor during his lifetime, but many times after that as well.
