I just want to know waht the OUTCASTS think of valentines day, being as we're outcasts and all, I think our opinions might be different than the other peoples, but I'm curious to see if it's the same

Oo! Thank you! Cool poll! I went for the last one just because it sounded like something Gollum would say. :D Anyways, here is where I will start advertising this ---> YayGollum's Rule Number One ---> Love is bad! Why do people always fall for it when they know that heartache is one of the worst and stupidest kinds of aches? You can avoid the evil thing! Pay attention to other people's mistakes! Argh! I could go on, but I wouldn't want to influence other people's decisions.

I took the second.....if people are going to love eachother they shouldn't need a holiday to do something special or romantic, and it makes all the single people feel really bad because they see all the coupled people, and they feel lonely, and it's taken me 3 years to find sum1 who agrees w/ me ( yesterday, my friend told me waht she thought about it)

i don't mind valentine's day, but it is pretty pointless. i've been with the same guy for five years, i don't need a holiday as an excuse to express my love. in fact, valentine's day just reminds me of how many other people don't like me. it's really bad when valentine's day is on a school day- my boyfriend lives 77 miles from where i go to school, so i see all these people with flowers, or people hugging and kissing and going out together and i'm all left out. all i get is a phone call.

I only detest the way people use valentines day as bragging rights. originally, yes, it was for loving everyone...but now, it seems like peole are saying "love some people, make fun of the rest for not having anyone send them flowers or chocolates"

Valentine's Day is pointless to me. Bravo for other people who get excited about it, I'm just going to go about my normal everyday business and be glad that I haven't caught the mysterious disease known as love. Oh yeah and trying not to barf at mushy lovey-dovey couples everywhere.

I love valentine's day!!!!! I get a whole bunch of those cutsie little kid valentines and chocolate candy and i walk down the hall way handing them out!!!:) I am like the Valentine's Bunny or Santa clause for valentines. I love it! I love any holiday that gives me an excuse to hand out gifts!:) :)

I don't think too much of Valnetine's Day, but for the most part it's ok, cause the teachers never give you any homework over the weekend (:D) and there's a Valentine's Dance (really just an excuse to miss class, cause at my school the dances are during the last two hours of the school day :D). I really think that Valentine's Day was made all comercial so that Hallmark could sell more cards. But I don't mind, they can sell away for all I care. The only thing that I do to celebrate Valentine's Day is eat chocolate, for my dad always buys a box of See's candies for the family to share! Yay! :D

It's definitely a commercial holiday... anyone ever hear of Sweetest Day? It's like in the middle of October. Not all calendars have it. Where did that come from??? Definitely another "Hallmark Holiday."

Bleh...my best friend and her boyfriend are always all over each other at every waking moment. It wasn't so bad in the beginning when they first got together because we (my other best friend, Jill, and I) thought that they'd quit after a while. But...they didn't. :o  And it gets really sickening. And now Jill has a boyfriend, too, so he's all over her (she doesn't want him to be, but she doesn't know how to say no  ), so I'm even MORE alone and disgusted. So I just find solace in my group of guy friends.

Oh yuck Kailita. This is high school? Those kids aren't mature enough for that sort of thing. Very gross.
munchkin
03-19-2003, 11:59 PM
Thats middle school for me!
Kailita
03-20-2003, 07:54 PM
Middle school wasn't that bad for me. It was somewhat amusing at times, actually. In middle school, people still used to send their friends over to find out what that cute guy thought of them...and then if he liked them, they would "go out", meaning hold hands and walk to class together. *Grins and shakes her head*
Now that we're freshmen in highschool though, the kids my age think they're all grown up. They still have a very immature view on love, but now they go farther and faster. And they think the jumpy, fluttery feeling in their chest means they've found their true love. I can see how people like Jam would develop a cynical outlook on love (even though you're homeschooled, aren't you Jam?). But I'm still holding out for the real thing, which means a lot more than holding hands or making out in a dark locker hall, and probably won't come around for me for a long time.
The-Elf-Herself
03-21-2003, 12:16 AM
Yeah, I'm homeschooled. At my suppl. classes the highschool guys and girls wouldn't even think of pairing up like that. Even the less-than-cynical ones don't want to mess with that stuff as their age. They have better things to do with their time and it's cooler being friends. Once of twice we have a party, but those are usually costume parties and last time we got this dance instructor to teach us renaissance dances, so it's a bit different.
Kailita
03-21-2003, 07:53 PM
Whoa, Renaissance dances! Cool! :D
Yeah, I think it is easier being friends. Less awkward moments, you don't have to feel like you have to impress anyone...

Well, Valentine's Day was a long time ago and I can't think of too many achingly fun to talk about holidays that are coming up soon, so why don't we talk about them anyways? just resurrecting threadses. What is next, anyways? Besides my birthday, which I probably won't be here for. There's that Fourth of July thing, but not everyone would care about it. Myself included. It's just a bunch of annoying noises.
Dragon

fourth of july; you know, its becoming less and less legal to set off firecrackers??? its terrible!!! they are loud, but they're sooooooooo pretty!!!!

I like the 4th of July. Except my mom has this new thing with dragging the whole family out to some picnic hillside where there are big crowds just so we can sit around for an hour and be achingly bored, then watch the fireworks. They are cool fireworks. But still...I don't know if it's worth waiting around in crowds of people for hours. Especially when we can just get some of our own. :D
HobbitGirl

I LOVE FOURTH OF JULY!!! I get to blow stuff up!! And I am a chronic pyromaniac, so...hehehehehe. :D:D Also, my dad makes his famous-throughout-our-neighborhood-and-nowhere-else homemade ice cream. *drools* Very, very delicious. Better than Hagan-Daaz or however the heck you spell that crazy German ice cream. So I get a block party with a barbecue and homemade ice cream and blowing stuff up in the circle. Very fun. :D:D:D
Rhiannon
06-07-2003, 06:50 PM
Last 4th of July we went to a big church picnic, which was fun because we had a really cool, outcasted youth group there, and we went to a free concert being given by some rock group that I don't know because I don't listen to any music from less than a decade ago (but their big song is something like 'This is the story of a girl, who cried a river and drowned the whole world.' etc.) which was fun, and watched the fireworks over the flight line and I made fun of my friend Erica who went around and got everybody's autograph.
This year we will probably do either an achingly boring picnic with Papa's squadron, or a less boring picnic with out sunday school group, or get together with a couple of other home school families, which is always good.

HG...take me to your house for the 4th this year, please? :( Maybe I'll spirit myself away to Utah for a week or so around then...maybe, maybe? ;) Yeah right...would have to ask the parents...they'd never let me go by myself. :o *Pouts*

My dad was about to let me go to Cali by myself, but my brother got wind of my trip and wanted to tag along. Can you believe it? My OLDER brother wanted to TAG ALONG. Talk about your switch of roles.
But seriously, Kai, if you really wanted to come, you could do it. Make your own reservations. You can buy ariplane tickets online. You could stay at my house! :D The only problem is the dinero, which naturally you have to get from your parents. Just remind them of how insanely responsible you are.

We`re having a picnic on June 22nd. It`s my Mom`s birthday and we always celebrate it out of town. Especially when it`s so terribly hot and dusty. As for other holidays, they were all in May. The nearest one is the day when people pore water on each other. It`s called VARDEVOR.
Sador
06-11-2003, 10:11 AM
You have a holiday devoted to pouring water on people? Armenians are wackier than I thought. We have a holiday for a horse race where people pour beer on each other. 1st Tuesday in November.

Hmmm. Horses? Beer on horses? That's crazy. I'd like to see that once though. It would be interesting.
I like Valetine's Day. It's a holiday and I like all kinds of holidays, because they are something you can wait for and they are a change from everyday life.
On Valentine's day, if I'm lucky I get cards and chocolate from others, if I'm not lucky I'll buy myself chocolate --> either way I can have chocolate :D
Talking about single people being lonely and miserable on Valentine's Day, I'm sure that some people are, those who don't spend that day with their friends. But I don't really need or use Valentine's Day for feeling lonely, it happens to me from time to time anyway, but usually I get over it quite quickly doing something I like to do or thinking happy thoughts (in other words day-dreaming) :D
YayGollum
07-18-2003, 02:12 AM
Sure, the chocolate is always good, but I don't see why you can't just ignore the holiday altogether. Buy chocolate whenever you feel like it. There's no need to feel lonely just because other people are having fun with sitting on cacti and not noticing it for a while. This is a good day to laugh at them and look forward to me getting to prove them wrong.

there is no way i could possible stress this enough..EVILITY IS NOT A WORD!!!!!!!!!! and my friend bill says if it were a word it would be a stupid word, but i dont think its a stupid word i just know its not a real word and it makes me go aaaarrrrrrgggghhh
then make weird cat noises i make when im upset.... D,you know what im talking about
why should i have to perform your silly tasks? why should it be your choice if im worthy or not,i think Ds made it VERY clear that she thinks im worthy of her and and and uuuuggghhhh!!!!! my head hurts ... hey! stop burning stuff!!!!!!
Kailita

That is why I put evility in parenthesis. :p:rolleyes: I wasn't sure if it was a word - and I think I've heard D use it before, but maybe not - so I said evilness then put evility in parenthesis. :p
Actually, I know what you mean about the aaaarrrrrrgggghhh and the weird cat noises. Go figure.
But anyway - *shakes head and gets back on subject* - as D's only sister, it is my God-given duty to make sure that she doesn't go out with anyone who is not worthy. Therefore, I assign you petty tasks, such as battling dragons, capturing stars, and doing my homework to make sure that you are fit to be around my younger sister. *Nods*. Rhi will agree with me when she gets back. :p
(Hmmm...we should get Bran on this, too...)

well bill's stupid! it is a word, just not an english word! do u ever stop to think that maybe there are other languages outside this extremely evil and grammarly sucking one?! do you? no? that's what I thought. (not really.... just felt like saying taht...)
ah yes, the cat noises....very interesting indeed...
...wait... stop burning stuff? .....um... who, and.... why?
K, if ur trying 2 figure out if he's worhty of me, y can't he do my homework? it makes much more sense:D :D :D  :D
Kailita

Okay, okay, so we'll have him battle werewolves and vampires instead of dragons. Forgot that that was a personal subject.

Hmmm...well, if he was truly worthy, he would be able to balance both your homework and mine, not to mention his own. ;)

i dont like homework..i have enough trouble doing my own, couldnt you make me do somthing im much more capable of doing,like....um.....i could raise various types of reptiles ,or obtain first chair in my orchestra...or win a chess competition........i dont think i can do much else......i dont have any muscles...so i cant battle things.....i couldnt even prove my manlyness as most guys i know would try to do...im actually more of a woman than a guy...but it works because D wears dudes clothes so it all works out....
um how would battling vampires and stuff show im worthy? shouldnt you be testing if i can provide her a stable and happy futer for both her and myself? seeing if i have what it takes to make a relationship work? seeing if im willing to commit to anything?
i think your trying to test me for the wrong things

So true. We just ramble on and on and on and on...:D Actually, we were using this thread for all holidays a little while back. We were talking about the 4th of July and other current holidays.

I love Halloween on account of it involves costumes. Also, most churches have Fall Festivals as a 'Halloween alternative' for people who are uncomfortable with the ghost/witches/haunted/pagan/etc. side of it, and those are really fun- y'know, games and things. So I never did much trick-or-treating, which is okay with me, and in Japan I face-painted at the Festival (in addition to organizing it one year...eep). This past year I did my sister's costume and her friend's- I made them both wings and painted their faces.

Got it. I did nothing for Labor Day. Plenty of evil teachers asked if we had a good Labor Day. We all gave the same answer ---> "It was just another weekend."
Since I'm guessing that we're going with Halloween now, yes, I am a fan. Sure, I would do the same and old and boring little kid thing of grabbing candy. Hardly ever got anything good. Hardly ever got an especially unique costume. Until the last few times I did anything for Halloween when I just stayed home and scared evil little kidses.

I LOVE Hallowe'en it's one of my favourite holidays. :)
Even though I'm Christian I like the dark pagan feel of it. :)
And I LOVE dressing up.
I was a tree few years ago. :) And I dressed up in that costume last year too. :) I told people I was an Entwife. :)

~*breathes a sigh of releif as more pockets appear in place of the stolen ones*~:o:p
humm, I love trick-or-treating, but I really hate it when ppl hand out little booklets about finding God and Jesus, bc they think that the ppl trick-or-treating are worshipping Satan. I wish they would, I dunno, maybe READ A LITTLE and learn about it. I don't think many ppl realize that trick-or-treating is actually about scaringaway demons and the devil. I hate arrogant ppl. this should b a rant. but it cant be, I have another rant for today, so, it goes here. yesh.
on labor day....I went shopping w/ my best friend... which I do almost every weekend... except the ones where we just sort of do nothing but sit. a lot. yah....

*Huggles D's stolen pocketses and tucks them away in the bag from Rhi* :)
Halloween is great, but I wish it was on a Friday every year...it just really stinks to have to go to school the next morning after staying out late trick-or-treating. I, however, have been declared by my matronly unit "too old" to accompany my brothers on their quest for candy. :( Technically I was too old last year as well, but I managed to slip by because my friend was going, too. Sigh. So this year I don't know what I'll do. Definitely dress up, though I don't know as what. I was a tube of toothpaste once...that was fun...I had a lampshade on my head to be the screw-on cap. :)

They tried to introduce Halloween in continental Europe, and I was totally for it, but unfortunately it didn't work. People were saying "it's just a commercial thing, and..." And so what??? Most of the time I love commercial things. And I've always loved being dressed up as some strange character. I know I'm learning dramatic art, but I would like Halloween, too...

I've got an idea, Arebeth...we have our own Halloween here in the GOO during October, and everybody can dress up and hand out candy, and that way you and me and other people who can't trick-or-treat won't miss out, and it'll be so fun, and...and...*gets all carried away* :)

A masquerade! An Outcast Masquerade! I want to do it! I want to do it! *jumps up and down*
I've been planning my graduation party for two years now- it's going to be a medieval-themed masquerade. Right now the idea is to rent a tent for the yard.

There's a whole Spanish/Mexican tradition for All Saints and All Souls day...it's totally fascinating but for El Día de los Muertos it's not about commercialism...it's about honouring one's ancestors. I think it's really cool. :)

It'll be about a month 1/2 this time...6 weeks...
But no...we really can't. :( For one thing immgration rules is stupid...
And for another thing neither of us have that kind of availability...
He has school...I have work...I want to be home for Christmas since it's my last year in America...my family has TONS of birthdays in January, then his school starts up again...and it's his last year so it's a HUGE time-constraint...and he's writing a dissertation and has finals and stuff...
It's hard...really hard...
But I DO get to see him in 4 days! :)
