View Full Version : Help me name my new car.

Hey all you outcasts. I just bought a new VW Beetle, which is silvery and irridesent. I have to get new plates for it within the month and thought about special LOTRs related plates. My only thought so far is:

G RUNE

but because of the irridescence, it reminds me more of Saruman of many colors,

SARUMN
or
WHT WZD

But it's more gray than white.

GRY HAME

I don't really think of myself as Saruman, but more as Gandalf.

Any one want to offer ideas?

Yikes! How many letters can you put in there? It looks like there's room for eight. Why not Radagast? :D Or Shadwfax, since it'd be a mode of transportation? I don't know. Not very good at that. How's about you just save money and not have a special plate?

Mindy_O_Lluin

I think 7 letters is the max.
I doubt I'd use RADAGST unless my car color was brown, but it's not.

Save Money? After what I spent on the car, this could only be a drop in the bucket.

SHDOFAX ? Maybe, but better on a white car.

But I do like that one.

YayGollum
02-09-2003, 04:16 AM
Okay, fine. I just said Radagast because you talked about those other wizards. Yay for Shadowfax! I'll come up with something else sometime. How's about Mindy? Or just GOO? Nah. Too crazy. I'd put Smeagol.

Mindy_O_Lluin
02-09-2003, 09:11 PM
GOO would be fun, but no one would relate it to LOTRs.
Maybe I should think up something in Elvish.

What does NAMARIE mean?

Dragon
02-09-2003, 09:57 PM
how 'bout SLVR BILL, or BILL PONY or some variation thereof?

Mindy_O_Lluin
02-10-2003, 07:37 AM
:D That almost could be mistaken for SLVR BELL (Christmasy?) though that would be the right shape anyway. It IS shaped like a silver bell.

Some Gray things:

GRY HAVN
MSTY MTN
MITHRIL
GRY PLGRM

I went on my search of elvish words and found:

Cel = silver, but CEL or CELE PONY isn't too thrilling to me.

I thought since the car looks like a mound of moon light, I might use:

DOL ITHIL ( Moon hill - but I don't like the sound)
AMON ITHIL (Too many letters)
ITHILDIN (Moon-star, that shiny writing on the doors of Moria)
ITHILIEN (Moon-land - one of my favorite places in the books)
(They might take 8 letters)

If I mix CEL and MEARA that would mean Silver Horse

CEL MEARA

Could just do somebody's name, like NIMRODEL
Or another place name - IMLADRIS or LORIEN

ERED LUIN would mean Blue Mountain.

MINDOLLUIN would be my namesake, but too long.

DOL LUIN would mean blue hill, but I don't like the sound.

Thought about something related to the Silmarils

SILIMA
SILME
ELENDIL (SP?)
SILMARIL

I have a hunch, unless something new really strikes me, I may settle for ITHILDIN or SILIMA

Have the one that I might have when I get a car:
MUNCHKN

But what kind of car would you get to match the name?

(Maybe a Mini Cooper)

EverEve
02-10-2003, 11:27 PM
Personally, I think you should do Shadwfax, cuz you know, they say he shone like silver in the moonlight, and was white in the day. :)

Um, maybe you could do....oh, I dunno. I like Shadwfax

Dragon

I liked MITHRIL, SHADWFX, and SILIMA

I am leaning towards MITHRIL, SILIMA or ITHILDIN myself, but it's good to have several choices since some words may already be taken.

Thanks all.

It could also be this and be a Chrystler Crossfire:
SARUMAN

Oo! Mithril and Shadowfax look like the best ones to me. Any of those crazy elf thingys would be just like GOO. Not very many people would understand them. oh well. The few people who did would be very interesting, though.

No.

theres no such thing as one word responses ;)

YayGollum
02-23-2003, 01:53 AM
Ah.

Whoops! No, I won't do it! Anyways, Mindy lady? Where are you? Decided on anything? Need more input?

Mindy_O_Lluin
02-23-2003, 03:19 AM
I think the cost decided for me. If it were a one time deal, I might have done it, but I'd have to pay again every time I register my car. So no special name for me until after I pay off the car.

Thanks everybody for your help.
When I do do it, I will use G RUNE, MITHRIL or SILIMA.

YayGollum
02-23-2003, 03:37 AM
Mithril is the best. Anyways, Yay for deciding that it costs too much money just to act crazy on your license plate! That's what I'd do! :D Yay for misers!

Why not name your beetle Kevin?
I had a pet cockroach called Kevin after the main charactor in "The Wonder Years". He couldn't get a girlfriend either.

Mindy_O_Lluin
02-23-2003, 08:33 AM
Why Kevin? Why not Liam, or Alvin, or Gumby.

No, no, no - VIGGO, or LIJAH, or ORLI, or LTLORC

I know! JPG AND R

Or, CARTMAN (double meaning, since it carts me around) or BUTTERS (he's an Outcast).

Dragon
02-23-2003, 05:54 PM
MITHRIL's still the best.........

Mindy_O_Lluin
02-24-2003, 03:13 AM
Now that I don't intend to pay for it yet, it's fun to come up with wild ideas anyway.

I kind of like LTLORC or LITLORC. That suits the car well,
You know - Beetle - bug-eyed - gray Moria ORC!

Or, if you relate it to Pippin/Merry and Treebeard, Beetles live in trees, right?

What about a good old fashioned Hobbit name like Hamfast?
Fastred?(wrong colour)

Mindy_O_Lluin
02-24-2003, 05:50 AM
I don't remember FASTRED, but I always kind of liked APPLEDORE, NOB, and MELILOT.

How about MATHOM.

Or QUIKBEAM or QCKBEAM

I looked up some other Gandalf names (my hair looks like his).

Could do: MTHRANDR (if 8 letters allowed), or OLORIN, or GRYFOOL, or WHTRIDR, STMCROW, or THARKUN, or INCANUS (don't really like the last two).

Oh well, I'm exhasted thinking about it.

Sador
02-24-2003, 06:04 AM
Fastred is either an old hobbit name or some Rohirrim from wayback.
You could name it after your very own mountain... Mindolun.
You could call it what I always call my cars... The car.

The Mithril Mobile!

YayGollum
02-24-2003, 10:12 PM
Oo! I like that little orc idea! Very cool! Well, since we're not doing hers anymore, why not try a completely different kind of car? I was planning on getting one of those older tank-like land yacht type things. Nothing nice and new for me!

Mindy_O_Lluin
02-24-2003, 11:59 PM
Excellent idea. GROND comes immediately to mind!
or OLIPHNT

speaking of cars, i was driving to school today and i saw a car with the liseceplate that was something like '123 GOO" and it really said GOO and i was very happy.

YayGollum
02-25-2003, 01:40 AM
Mindy person, I would think that those suggestions would work better on some huge truck or something. I'm talking about one of those cool looking older cars. I don't remember names. oh well. You know. The really long, usually two doored things? Anyways, sure, Yay for GOO on a license plate! I wouldn't use that unless I knew of some GOO members that would see it. Whoops!

I used to have a car like that, a 1985 monte carlo. it was awesome, but it had lots of problems and I finally had to get rid of it. Now I have no car:( Oh well. I never did name it. I would think you'd name a car Gollum or Smeagol, Yay. I think any of the wizard names would also be suiting for an old car.

YayGollum
03-11-2003, 11:29 PM
Yeah, I probably would name pretty much any car Gollum. oh well. I'm glad that I'm so predictable. Yay for at least one person knowing what kind of car I'm talking about!

omnipotent_elf
03-14-2003, 07:32 AM
. I think any of the wizard names would also be suiting for an old car.

is that a joke about wizards.....
it remind me of a LOTR skit i saw "lets settle this in the ways of old" and gandalf and sauramon have a lawn bowls competition.......

Ask Shadowfax the member and she'll assure you Shadowfax was silver.

What about:

CELEBCR

:) For Celeb car.

Celeb means silver right? Hehe.

OR: CELEBBG
:) For Celeb-bug. :) Silver bug. :)

Or:

You could put OLORIN cos Gandalf was grey. :)

I've been reading the Sil now, so I can think of a bunch more.

Mindy_O_Lluin

I don't like standing out or being obvious. That's why I won't use GANDALF.
The less obvious and still meaningful, the better. I like being mysterious.

YayGollum
04-11-2003, 03:09 AM
Well, you know. I'd go for a middle ground. I doubt that the average LOTR movie viewer knows much about mithril. *sniff*

I couldn't believe my eyes today. I saw a black sporty looking car with the licence plate 391 RNG. Is it possible that could be a coincidence? Our standard plates here are in that format: three numbers and then three letters. It was too wierd.

Wonko The Sane
04-17-2003, 01:04 PM
The numbers mean nothing...the letters are probably coincidence. :D

YayGollum
04-17-2003, 10:50 PM
The numbers mean something. Anyways, Yikes! That is creepy! No fair! Why didn't we think of that? That would be a middle ground type thing.

04-18-2003, 12:34 AM

*Scratches head*

YayGollum

Three rings for evil elves. Nine for boring humans. The One Ring.

Wonko The Sane
04-18-2003, 05:00 AM
Ooh...I get it.
I thought it might have something to do with that but there was no number for the dwarves so I changed my mind.

Mindy_O_Lluin
04-18-2003, 05:36 AM
Since we only get six characters, I guess the person had to limit it.
Maybe someone else in the state got the other combinations.

I suspect it was someone in the Motor Vehicle Dept who is a fan, and saved that particular plate for himself, because it looked like the standard format as opposed to a vanity plate, which looks slightly different and has no format.

But it was cool to see anyway. That made my day!

Wonko The Sane
04-18-2003, 05:37 AM
It also could just be a coincidence. :)
