I don't know about you all, but I plan to dress up as Gandalf the White when I see Return of the King. The other part of my plan is to buy tickets weeks in advance. What about the rest of you? Will you see Return of the King in costume or just as you are? If you do go in costume, who will you dress up as?

I wouldn't do a costume unless it was really, really. really good!
Will you make a staff that you can light up?
that would be great!
LOL
I remember when Triumph: the insult comic dog went to the Star Wars Ep 1 Opening, and all the movie-goers were dressed in costume.
Here it is: http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/video/nerds.html
But there is no way that I'd dress up.

No, unless I was going with a Tolkien fanclub or something. But since I'm not a member of a fanclub, I think I won't.

No. The only way I'd go in costume is if I could have an actual size Balrog costume, complete with flames, whip, and sword!

You could make one. The Return of the King doesn't come out until December 17th, 2003. That's a ways away. I'd suggest you make one.
I won't be going to see it in costume, but it's fun to see people who do go to the effort. My advice would be to go all out and get all the details right. I remember going to a Star Wars screening on opening night, and you could tell the people who didn't really put in much of an effort, and some of them looked kinda tryhard IMO. The two best costumes were these two kids dressed as Jedi. Looked very convincing. Can't help but think that their parents were the ones who really wanted to dress up, but couldn't bring themselves to do it, so they made the kids do it instead. ;)

I hope I don't see any Orcs in the theater! Last Halloween, the local costume store was selling masks of Lurz.

I'll go see ROTK like I saw FOTR and TTT, in a costume!

I will just go as me.
But I hear at the midnight shows here, where I live, there are a lot of hobbits ...
<<<<<wonder if grima W. is popular???!!!??? ... he wasn't too popular with eowyn :(
It MUST have been all the grease on his face ... I don't know WHY she just didn't fall all over him!!! yuck! :( >>>>>
<<<<<I don't think here in america (with all that's going on) we need ole' odo in our theaters unclothed. thank God he's dressing. :) :) :)>>>>

I went as a Balrog for TTT but the theater owners took away my propane tanks after I started the fifth and sixth bleacher rows on fire.
A part of the way into the film, eight guys dressed as Gandalf picked me up, poked me with sticks and fake swords, and threw me down onto the floor in front of the bleachers. After that, the usher made me sit in the back row with Lurtz and the other dead characters.
Next time, I will go as someone who actually makes it through the book.

I would not go in coustume if someone paid me!! I do, however, plan to buy my tickets as far in advance as I can. I will not be going until about two or three weeks afterward. That way, I can avoid all the crying babies and the 10 year olds who think that they are so cool going to a movie that is PG-13. speaking of costume, did anyone see that guy on the first round of American Idol that dressed like Harry Potter!???:D

Hmmmmmm.... if I ever got up the nerve to wair a costume, it would have to be to ROTK (duh). Part of me would like to, but i know I won't unless I spend the rest of the year convincing myself that I should. The best I've done so far is wair Elf Ears to TTT, and that is probably be all I do for ROTK. As for buying tickets as far in advance as I can, no. The best I could do would be to perhaps convince my dad to let me go on opening night! So far the earliest i've been able to go on both movies is December 24, not even close enough. That's not even in the first week! Pitiful! I'm going to have to work all year at convincing him!

LadyOfIthilien, for the last few times we saw the movies, we made pointy ears out of band -aids! If you let the points stick out of your hair. It has a really nice affect. For RotK, I'm probably going ot buy some. I saw some at The Lord of the Rings Fanatic site http://216.240.128.132/shop/product_info.php?products_id=794 right here.... The band- aid ones sound stupid, but I thought they looked really cool. if you put them on right, you can hardly see the band- aid parts.
I don't know if I should go in costume though... MacAddict is right... This will be the last chance!!!

thanx so much, 33peregrin. All my freinds want them now too! If they are all gonna dress up, then i will too. Its alot easier to do soemthing like this if you can be sure you wont be the only one!

02-24-2003, 02:27 AM
Sure! I know what you mean. The first time I saw TTT I was the only one to wear Elf Ears. It was really scary. The next two times I saw it, Gimli's Gal wore them too, and it wasn't half as bad!!!:)

33Peregrin, you know GimlisGal? Is she your freind or soemthing? it'd be cool to have a freind in the forum, i think im going to convince one to join (the same one im trying to convince to wear elf ears!!)
i know this probably should have been one of those private messages, but my dad blocked that out when i joined the forum, sorry

The only way you would see me dressed up in costume to see any of the LOTR movies...is if or one of two scenarios happened:
1. I got an invitation to the NYC premier party for the RotK...and the only requirement was that I must come dressed as one of the characters (highly unlikely)
2. Someone paid me a large ungodly sum of money to do it.

If I've got the nerve to skip school for a movie, of course I'm dressing up for it. Only for RoTK, though. And only if I can drag one of my friends along with me. I want to dress up as Sauron, so in the end <spoiler> I can yell "Noooooooo!!! I payed ten dollars to see this ****?! Everyone knows I was winning!" Then I'll storm out and pretend to cry in the lobby. But I don't think I have enough cash for a Sauron costume, so I'll probably go as Gandalf or something. That has it's problems, as I don't think Gandalf had boobs.

You can get elf ears at normal costume stores too, but they're sometimes called vulcan ears. I'm definately going in costume!:D I'll be going as I did for TTT, in an elvish costume. I was the only one in the theatre!:( Oh well...

When I go see it on opening day, probably not. . .I've got a date with my mom and her friend to do it, so I'd feel utterly ridiculous like that. But LadyOfIthilien and I are already planning to go dressed up! ;-) I'm going to be Éowyn for halloween, so...unfortunately, I'm not blonde. *sigh* Think my mom would let me dye my hair???
Frodorocks, what did you use as your Elven costume???

I had a long green skirt that had these elegant leafy stenciled outline kind of thingies on it, a green shirt with cuffs that belled out really low, brown sandals, and elf ears. :D I wore my hair in kinda the same way has Liv Tyler wore her hair in the flight to the ford scene.

Yeah... we are friends! It is pretty cool. She isn't really
that into LOTR, she basically joined because I was on here all the time, and I guess she missed me. It's cool! She was the only one brave enough to wair Elf Ears with me! The first time I went alone.:)
i think wearing a costume to the movie would be lame.... no offence to anyone, but when i went to see TTT there was a guy there dressed like Legolas and he even had the bag with plastic arrows and everything and pointed earpieces. i felt like telling him "dude, youre not an elf. give it up."

Aw come on, it's just a fun way to show your obsession with Tolkien. I personally have a child's love of dressing up. ;) So if LadyOfIthilien does it with me, we fully plan on going (both as Éowyn) to see RoTK in costume!

Oh course I'm going to dress up for ROTK. Can't waste my costume that I worked so hard on and wore to TTT premier, can I? Yes, I'm one of those freaks who not only went in full, home-made costume but waited outside in the freezing cold for tickets(our dumb theater doesn't sell advanced tickets). It was really fun. I went as an anonymous elven scout, the outfit consisted or leggings, low leather boots, a leather jerkin with a tunic under it, leather wrist cuffs, and a long hooded cloak pinned wuith an elvish-type brooch, all in shades of brown, with my brown hair pinned back. Got lots of nice comments on it. I'm working on a bigger and better costume this year. Oh and as for going out in public, I once went to a costume party dressed as a character from the Sil. and then did all my usual errands at department stores and stuff without changing into normal clothes. I'm just not easily embarrassed I guess. Just FYI, I'm also a general sewing and costuming person among a thousand other interests, so this gives me a chance to show-off.
