In The Two Towers, the Elves were leaving Rivendell because the area would disappear due to the Elf's powerful ring. My mom told me that. What I don't get is why did Elrond stay behind? What is the point of that?? Also, what other areas disappear due to the other rings that Sauron gave to the inhabitants of Middle Earth? Will the Shire disappear? She also told me that when Frodo comes back to the Shire, it'll be taken over by someone and will not be cheerful anymore. Is this true? I am confused about this.....

I just wouldn't feel right spoiling it for you, but I will say that I just read an essay on LOTR that called it one of the saddest novels ever written. However, have faith Jesse, things are not as dark as you might fear...

Oh, I'm not thinking it's dark. It's just plain old curiousity.

just out of curiousity, did you read the books? I have this feeling that you didn't, but FoolOfATook was right, not eveything was as dark as you think.

Even your mom may be surprised by the RotK. While the final scenes of the movies will show it all; because PJ added depth to the story, and fleshed out important characters, he had to leave some things undone. :)
Just to make you not worry so much; Elrond is still here because the elves haven't ALL left middle earth. :) And he knows he has to see this thru for more than one reason!
Start reading it is a joy!

:D :D :D

Some things that were once good and beautiful in Middle Earth will fade, yet other beautiful things will grow and flourish.

The time for man will come, as the time for the firstborn is ended.
