Anybody else here love this game and still own any of the campaign books and modules? I used to play way back in the day, but unfortunately lost all the books except the Northern Mirkwood campaign setting.

I have recently decided to, when money permits (they are pretty pricey now), start tracking down at least the campaign books. I just purchased the Angmar one for 37 dollars on eBay.

Which ones are your favourites? Any suggestions as to what I should go after next?

And feel free to use this thread to talk about anything MERP related.

Somehow I never got into RPG's (and I bought the original D&D when it came out!). I do regret not getting any MERP games, though -- for the maps, at the very least.

If I ever see any at yard sales, I'll pick them up.

BTW -- Wouldn't this get more discussion in the RPG section?

Maybe. At first glance, the RPGs section seemed to be ppl doing actual role-playing so I put it in here. If somebody wants to move it...

And yeah, I played the game a bit, but mostly I bought for the maps and the lore. It was set a couple hundred yrs before TH and TLOTR so it was my gateway to a different era of Middle-Earth.

Edit: Ah geez, I totally didn't see the Council of the Wise forum. So, yeah, if a mod wants to move this, it would be much appreciated.

Highly recommend this game, it works on the 360 but its expansion doesn't unfortunately.

Shoot a PM to Erestor Arcamen, our hardworking Mod. He'll be happy to put it where you want it.

Maybe I worded that awkwardly. . .

Not sure what this has to do with MERP, but once I get a working XBox original again, maybe I'll check it out. (My 360 isn't backwards compatible anymore for some reason)

It's not RPG but it will give you ME vives. Orcs, ogres, elves, dark elves, humans, giant eagles, cavalry etc etc. Game's an RTS but when you enter combat with your character's troops, it switches into hack n slash, you can switch in between all your different troops at any time. You can upgrade/buy armor, weapons, shields, spells and other items for your armies/characters.

Apparently, one of the latest updates (or the last) has reduced the compatibility, so i guess some of the games that used to work don't do any more. This one still does tho, and playing it on the 360 upscales the graphics to hd quality.

It does look fun (just checked a video walk through). Maybe I'll get the Circle of Doom or whatever it's called for the 360 and see if I like that one.

No, it was an RPG rules system, with a number of modules:

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middle-earth_Role_Playing

Not many PC games in the 80's. :)

One great feature was the box art by Angus McBride:

Most (or all?) of his paintings for the series were collected in a book:

Plus, there were detailed maps. I believe the goal was to cover all Middle Earth, eventually enabling you to put them together to create one gigantic map. I don't know if they finished the project before losing the rights.

Don't apologize. You gave me some new games to check out, so all good. I actually ordered Circle of Doom this morning.

Hey, that book looks awesome. Wonder how hard THAT is to track down nowadays?

Yup, too pricey for this guy. Lol

My Angmar sourcebook just showed up! Can't wait to tear into it. These books are so great. Now if I could just find my Mirkwood one. Stupid unpacked boxes!
