    Welcome fellow guild members!1

Now I have the great joy and honor to present my friends, the lords of time, The historic what if game!

You may have seen it in the guild of Tolkienology but it is there devoted only to Tolkien's great works. Therefore I have now started our version of it based and supported by my good friend Lhunithiliel and her version of the game, she was the one who invented it.

The rules are simple: Our goal is to develop history alternatively by taking a given topic, say: What would have happened if Napoleon had defeated the British at Waterloo? And then we develop it for a week or so till we feel we are done with it. Then we move over to the next topic and if any of you have any suggestions for a new topic (and I will rely on you in this) just PM me with it.

Your answers may be in any form , just a brief comment, a long story, a list with the years different things happened, a history book's comments or anything (Only thing to think about is not to post the whole story in one post, even if you have it worked out, let all think and post).

The first topic is: What would have happened if Napoleon had defeated the British at Waterloo?

    Enjoy/ Húrin Thalion

Ok since there is no activity here I will start the game. My immediate thought is that he would have turned against the already beaten prussians adn been victorious. He would then have rushed to face the eastern enemy army with Austrians, Poles and Russians and probably beaten them too. The Brithish would be keeping calm after evacuating the remaining forces covered by their navy. The northern alliance army cannot be seen as a threat as they were few and would not have dared to face the victorious Napoleon. After ridding France of enemies he would have to choice to either go east against the Poles and Austrians or make an attempt to invade great Britain...

I don't think he would invade Britain until he had an extremely large ego; that is, after conquering Europe (like Hitler, perhaps). Once the eastern threat had been lessened and/or neutralized, THEN he could have attempted to cross the Channel. However, with an Empire that large, he would be spread very very thinly, and without the ability to retaliate quickly and decisively, he could not hold his borders.

Eventually, I think he would have to stop, because there is no way that he could go on to conquer the Turks, Persians, Indians, and Orientals.

All in all, no matter what, the Empire, in any form, would not last long after he died (Assuming it would last that long). It is doubtful that a respinsible leader would ursurp, and a tyrant would come and be ridden out by rebellion on a massive scale, whereafter the conquered lands would splinter away.

Sorry to resurrect and old topic, but i'm interested in this particular part of history.

Since the battle of Waterloo was "the nearest run thing you ever saw" (i've always wanted to use that quote :D ), Napoleon would have crushed the Prussians as the came into battle. If it was me, i'd have turned back to deal with the Austrians and Poles (with whom he'd had no truble in the past) and, once he'd consolidated his hold within France again, moved against Russia and capture (again) Moscow. While this would no doubt be the start of his all-powerful empire, it would have been stretched very thin (think the Roman Empire just before the Goths came along). Having established an estern border, he would have moved against either Spain or, more likely, Britain. I say more likely because the Spanish were, frankly, of little military importance, but the partisan nature of the populace would end up consuming more troops than a full-blown war with Britain would. However, to invade he would require a fleet, somwthing which he had been lacking since Trafalgar and the Dutch debacle.

In short, i believe Europe would have returned to its state before the Penisular War, expect that Napoleon would have a relatively easily-held eastern border which would allow him more troops for use in future invasions.

So, who wants to shoot my theory down?

Well, what if Prussia hadn't have re-stabilized her military after her defeat by Napoleon? What if she hadn't launched a united front with Austria and Russia? What if Prussia hadn't created the Zollverien or defeated France and Austria? What if Metternich and Austria had prevailed over Prussia? What if the 1848 rev. had been a success and the people had solved their petty differences? What if Austria had established hegemony over the German Confed. more then Prussia did in it's last years?

What if Bismarck had actually looked to the future instead of seeking short term solutions for everything and hating socialst, catholics and dancing bears?
