This is the thread for FAQ that could/should be answered. All suggestions for additions to the list for (really) frequently asked questions - and possible answers - are welcome here (or directly at the FAQ-page).

    FAQ:
    • Are the events of The Lord of the Rings pure fiction, or where and when did they take place?
    • Is Middle-earth supposed to represent Europe?
    • Is the Shire meant to be England?
    • What are Hobbits?
    • Which race does Gollum belong to?
    • Did Elves have pointed ears?
    • Dwarf-women: are there any and what do they look like?
    • Who are the Ainur, Valar, Maiar?
    • Who are the Istari (Wizards)?
    • Are Orcs and Goblins the same?
    • What are the Uruk-hai?
    • Who or what is Tom Bombadil?
    • What became of the Entwives?
    • Which changes were made to The Hobbit after The Lord of the Rings was written?

The questions above are only a starting point...

I am interested in the kingdoms of the south: Harad, the Corsairs, Rhun, the Variags of Khand. It seems they are almost to a "man", allies of Sauron but why this should be so (instead of being allied with the other side or at worst neutral) does not seem to be very well explained.

Certainly, the Corsairs seemed to be developed after the pirates of the same name who pillaged and plundered the seas for many years. Most of them as well as the men or Harad sound very "Middle-Eastern" (swarthy, dark eyed and haired, lovers of bright clothing and golden jewelry).

Idril says she has talked to you and that you had

I, of course, think that this is an excellernt idea and will represent the Tolkien Wiki and the Guild in this venture I hope that this meets with your approval.

Yes indeed, it seems there will be another attempt of bringing this to life as sort of a joint-venture project and your help will be much appreciated, Doug.
