Well, first of all, I belive that Sam is kinda gay because he touches and almost kisses with "Mr. Frodo". Most of you would say: "Oh No, of corse not, he married Rosie and had CHILDREN WITH HER". But I think that he may be bisexual as well.
Imagine one day of the 4 years that Frodo was still alive after the end of the war with Sauron: Rosie catches Sam and Frodo aving sex; it would be hillarious.
Well my point is that Tolkien shouldnt have Sam and Frodo look so "gayish", cause, after all, THEY SAVED MIDDLE-EARTH.

In Tolkien's day you didn't worry about a character seeming to be gay.

Honestly though, I'm sure it's been explained a hundred times how Sam is looked on as Frodo's batman, and the master-servant relationship that would develop into a mutual platonic bond of love and respect was one that Tolkien would have witnessed in his days in the army. You may be getting confused with the movie interpretation of their closeness, and the many scenes that to a giggly ten year old may seem romantic, but to suggest that they are intended to be gay? Nonsense.

I agree with Hammersmith, that the master-servant relationship became so strong that it was almost as if they were brothers. The war influenced Tolkien a lot, and I think that the bond of loyalty that Tolkien gave to Sam and Frodo had for each other was partly because of his wartime experiences, of fraternity and loyalty where, in the same camp during a war, soldiers of the same country have for each other.

It sickens me to think that we are the same age. You also may be thinking PJs version. I don't think they seem gay in that one either. I believe that you just have minor issues and aren't quite as dedicated as you should be. Also it is just that over time they begin to have more of a brotherly relationship.

Its sad how much contempt a person must have for homosexuality to hold a belief like that.

First, thanx 4 giving me ur opinions. Second, I think u guys r all right. Sam is not gay. It's just Tolkien's idea of relationship between soldiers (in his times) that gave Tolkien the inspiration 4 giving Frodo and Sam a very good relationship.

Thank u all 4 giving me ur opinions,

Sounds like you've inadvertently soaked up some good old all-American homophobia. Obsession with homosexuality was the furthest thing from Tolkien's mind, and from the culture in which he grew up.

By the way, in France, Italy and the Middle East, men — straight men — kiss and hold hands and nobody bats an eye.

Exactly, why does it have to be a sick relationship between to good and loyal friends?

I always thought of Pippin and Merry as the gay ones, and even then, I just kinda thought about it. I don't think it matters if they are gay or not. I mean, does that change what they did? No.

Will you guys stop the gay pairings? There was no such thing as gay or homosexual in Middle-earth, Tolkien didn't want it to happen. Or so I think...

How many of these "Was insert character here gay?" threads does TTF have to have? I think they're on a Lunar cycle or something.
