The Tolkien monogram: more to it than just “JRRT”?

    I have a feeling that, as deep and complex as the Professor was, that there’s more to the official monogram than just his initials artistically smushed together.

    There’s a flame coming off the top, and there are two sets of four dots on either side, what do all these things mean?

    I’m very interested to find out. Thank you.
