I wish people would leave Tolkien to rest in peace.

I will too...cautiously. I know too well how Hollywood handles certain aspects of people, especially if those people are religious.

I still think the world needs to leave Tolkien in his grave. The new Shadow games are already destroying every vestige of the mythology.....

Haha yes, those games are absolute trash and don't even resemble Middle-Earth for the most part.

I hope that if they're doing a serious non-fiction biography, it will be good. Does biopic mean that it will be fictionalized, (Like the Doors movie?), or that it will be a documentary?

    Yeah........:(:(

    Definition of biopic
    :a biographical movie

These two Biopics will be about his life. I hope for Tolkien's sake, nothing is fictionalized or disregarded, including his religion. I think I speak for most Tolkien fans when I say we want nothing marginalized, taken away, or added. We want the straight story. I'm not holding too much breath though, I don't trust Hollywood with Tolkien. It may just be more about Middle-earth than the man himself!

Okay, I'm being curmudgeonly. I'll try to hold out hope for it. (Can you tell I don't like Hollywood?) :D:D

    Anyway, What's happening is happening...

Hmm interesting. For someone like me (and lots on this site!) who are more interested in learning in-depth about Tolkien than being entertained for 90 minutes by his life, I would prefer it to not be that format... but then again, maybe it will be good to get more people interested in him, and I'm sure I'll still learn from it. But I will be scouring the internets for some fact-check articles about it afterward.

Sounds reasonable enough. I just don't want an agenda added on to Tolkien's life.

I don't know if I'm supposed to mention this, but Tolkien is a Traditional Roman Catholic, Hollywood hates those, with a ravenous passion.

That's what I'm worried about. I am a Catholic myself, and I don't want my role model's religion destroyed and slandered in a film. Not every fan is religious, absolutely no problem with that, :) but we can all agree that is was a big part of The Professor's life, especially after what happened to his mother, Mabel, who converted before her death and was, as Tolkien himself put it "A martyr for her faith."

I truly want every part of Tolkien's life in the movie exactly as it was in real life. I don't want unnecessary add-ons, and other things marginalized. Heck, he COURTED Edith, Hollywood hates that too.

Sorry, I'm a curmudgeon, it's just everything about Tolkien's life is anathema to Hollywood.

I'm absolutely shocked they would pick up his life to do two Biopics.

    Color me surprised!

Any who, thats my main concerns.

That they handle his religion with reverence and respect to the man, and the fact he waited years to court Edith, keyword: Court. No dating, and no hookup.

Other than that, I am pretty excited honestly,

    Don't muck this up HW.
