I cannot find definitions for two words in Mythopoeia, and I've tried English, Latin and medieval dictionaries.

    The first is "tifi"

"Yet trees are not 'trees', until so named and seen
and never were so named, tifi those had been
    who speech's involuted breath unfurled..."

    The second is "pattemed"

    "There is no firmament,
only a void, unless a jewelled tent
myth-woven and elf-pattemed; and no earth,
unless the mother's womb whence all have birth."

Please indicate your source if you're able to find a definition. Thank you.

I think they are just typos for till and patterned.

    No?

My copy of "Tree and Leaf" , Houghton Miffllin Company 1989 , which includes "Mythopoeia" has "till" and "patterned" for those verses.
So maybe as posted above by Galin .... It is a typo?

They're quite prevalent on the internet. I checked several pages that had the words I listed. Maybe an early version misprinted them?

Well I can't speak for the internet or any other version / copy other than mine.
As I said in my copy its "till" and "patterned" , so I'm guessing a typo or misprint in some versions....

Something I've learned that is very common is when mass-market paperback re-issues are made, especially low-budget ones, the original texts are digitally scanned and re-formatted, often with significant typos like these appear to be. It is true that they become extremely wide-spread in circulation. If I remember correctly, there's actually half a paragraph of description missing from a page in the mass-market Lord of the Rings.
