I am supposed to hold a ten-minute lecture about The Lord of the rings and Talkie. I would be happy if some of you could give me your opinion about the main things to mention. If you could write a list f.eks. Ten things you think it should contain, I would be delighted

It's a movie with sound... as opposed to an old Silent.

There's one for your list, gimli: how the old silent film of "The Lord of the Rings" conveyed the author's themes (perhaps even better than the current film does).

:D

You could spend a full 10 minutes describing the changes of "The Flight to the Ford."

Other significant major changes include "Strider," the "Council of Elrond," and "The Breaking of the Fellowship."

Or you can focus completely on the adaption of the Shire portions....

Ten things...

1) Time compression in the Shire
2) A Conspiracy NOT Unmasked
3) No Old Forest or Tom Bombadil
4) No Letter from Gandalf or Broken Sword of Aragorn at Bree
5) No Bill Ferney or missing Ponies
6) No sign of Gandalf fighting at Weathertop
7) No Hide-Out at Weathertop... no campfire... no "Elbereth!"
8) No Glorfindle
9) No Gandalf firworks for the ford, no flaming brands, no defiance by Frodo
10) Bilbo does not offer to take the ring to Mordo at the Council.

Is your talk mostly about the book, or the film? And who is the audience?

You see there is SO MUCH and you can come at it from all sorts of angles. Goroshimura has decided you should have a good old fashioned rant at the film, bless his heart. Unless you happen to be addressing the World Congress of Tolkien Purists, I think that's not the greatest idea!

My list might be...
(1) A brief description of LotR - plot summary
(2) What people like about it
(3) What are hobbits
(4) And why they are heroic
(5) The character of Gollum - evil... but he saves the world
(6) Elves as ideal beings
(7) The corrupting power of the ring
(8) How Tolkien depicts good and evil
(9) How Tolkien created a whole mythology - not just a few stories
(10)What PJ has done to turn the book into a film

BTW - that's enough for about 10 hours!

Yes, a more precise description of your task and the audience would be helpfull. There is so much possible.

Thanks guys!

I thank you for your contribute to my assignment, and just come with all your ideas, for the lecture is not until after the weak of easter this year.

Goroshimura asked
What's a Talkie?
I am sorry that could not replay on the spot, but the conecton was bad. I did not intend to write Talkie, but Tolkien, you know whom I speak of, the great king who ones wrote a large three bind book, known as The Lord of The Rings! No offence Donnie B., an great ideas!
